This is our dad. For many of you who know our family, you may remember dad to be a jolly, strong man, a caring father to us and our dogs, and a loving lolo and tito to many.

Sadly, dad was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease - HLH, for which he’s been battling in the hospital for 2 months now. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is very rare, a 1 in a million unlucky chance that he acquired it. For months he’s been suffering from daily fevers of 39 to 40 degrees, so dangerous that the chills are never-ending until he is given paracetamol via IV every 8 hours. His blood counts are low, with his platelets being as low as 6, he has to undergo blood transfusion every single day just to survive. We’ve been in the hospital under care of many specialized doctors, undergoing several tests and trials of many different treatments including biopsies, chemo therapy, and IVIG just to name a few. Our dad is in pain. He is weak, tired, unable to be his old cheerful self, but he is fighting.

Alongside him has been the unending love and care of our mom who surpasses her own share of trials just to keep daddy feel safe and secure. As a family we always make sure to accompany our parents in the hospital everyday, assisting in feeding our dad, giving him soothing massages, meditating together, helping in his ice baths for his fevers, assisting him to the toilet, and really just being there to remind him that we’ll do everything that we can for him to get better. We’ve also reached a point where we are challenged financially, having to sell our assets and loan funds to cover dad’s hospitalization needs.

Today, HLH is a disease with no known one-size-fits-all cure. Medical research is still ongoing to find the right combination of meds to manage the symptoms, but dad is expected to battle with this disease for the rest of his life managed by steroids and chemotherapy. To this day, dad is staying at the hospital until his fevers subside and his blood counts level up to normal. We do pray we see this improvement soon. 🙏

Easter reminds us to trust in God’s healing powers, to offer our sufferings to Him and believe in the joy of resurrection. Our family’s faith has been tested many times in this journey, but everyday we are reminded through Dad’s strength that God provides and He will never let us down.

We sincerely thank everyone who has reached out to our family to offer their prayers. We are touched by the amount of support and donations we get from relatives, friends, and even strangers who have not hesitated in donating blood to our dad. We give thanks to the Lord for making you all his instruments for His healing miracle. Our dad sends his love to all of you.

We continue to ask for your dearest support for our family. We are with him in this fight and hope to spread more awareness about HLH so that one day we may find a better cure. Please keep him in your prayers so that he may finally go home and be with all of us, and may God bless all of you. ❤️
