First of all, I would like to introduce myself and tell about me. My name is Misbahul Muniroh, and I am usually called Mis. I come from Surabaya city in Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asian. Here I live with my extended family consisting of 11 people in my grandparents’ because my parents do not own a house. In my family, I am the first child and I have a younger brother (15 years old) and a younger sister (5 years old). My father is a welder who works only if there is a call for project, meanwhile my mother is continuing her mother’s small food business. I can say that we come from middle-lower class of society because both my parents’ incomes are only enough to cover basic needs.

At the moment, I am studying Economics at Airlangga University in the third year. Going to university costs an arm and a leg in my case. Since my parents obviously are not able to pay for my study, I looked for scholarship to fund me going to university. Later on, I found a full scholarship from Indonesian government for poor yet smart students like me and luckily I managed to achieve it. This scholarship covers tuition fee and monthly allowance during my study. However, I was also doing part-time job in a cafe to earn extra money although the salary was not decent. At least, I could enlight my parents’ burden.

Since the first year of my study, I wanted to study abroad particularly in the Netherlands. Why Netherlands?

1. Good quality of education.

Most universities in the Netherlands have international standarization, and Netherlands is well-known for its business-related study besides its water-related study. Since I am interested in business study, then it's a good choice to study in the Netherlands. However, studying environment in the Netherlands is great to support the development of its students.

2. Diversity.

Netherlands hosts various people from different backgrounds and any nationalities. I have always been interested to meet new people and see the world from different perspectives. Exchanging culture has always been my interest.

3. Far from home.

There are many good internationalised universities in Asia namely Singapore, Japan, and China. These countries also host various people worldwide. But compared to Netherlands, they are closer to my home country rather than Netherlands. I would like to be far from home where I should live without Indonesian foods, Indonesian weather, Indonesian people, and Indonesian language. I believe that to live in such completely different country, would teach me to be a better person, more responsible, independent, tougher, and adaptable.

4. To make my parents proud.

My parents were not able to attend higher education back then, thus I want to make them proud of me because their daughter is able to study abroad.

5. Inspire the others.

I love inspiring people, especially in pursuing their dreams. By studying abroad, I would like to share my knowledge and experiences to the others. However, after I return home, I plan to make an English-speaking club where I could help the other students improving their English skill, which is required if they want to study abroad. Often I heard that many students want to study abroad yet language is one of the obstacles for them.

6. My home university has agreement with several universities in the Netherlands, thus it's a great opportunity since we don't have to pay for the tuition fee.

Lately, I am working to make my dream happen. I applied to Fontys International Business School in Venlo, Netherland, as an exchange student on Spring 2019. I would like to study Business Psychology, International Events Management, and Individual Research and Report Writing there. Since it's a university of applied sciences, the subjects are more into practice than only theory, which is quite opposite than my home university. Hence I would like to study there. And few weeks after I had submitted the application, I received an announcement if I got accepted! I was so glad and couldn’t believe it for seconds. Finally I could make one of my dreams comes true :)

However, I was pretty nervous in another hand because I knew that I have to meet the living expenses and the other fees (unless tuition fee) by myself,such as :

* Flight ticket from Surabaya to Amsterdam, return = 1.200 Euros / 1.371 USD
* Visa and residence permit = 300 Euros / 343 USD
* Health insurance for 6 months = 360 Euros / 412 USD
* Living cost for 6 months, including room rent, meals, book = 4.800 Euros / 5487 USD

It’s really a great deal of money for me, in which I could never afford, neither could my parents. I was about to give up but I knew that I could not just give my dream up without trying it out. After then, I started looking for financial aid or scholarship/grants from any sources for days. Unfortunately, I could not find scholarship/grant that fits to my situation, yet I will receive financial supports from my university and local institutions as a good news. However, the financial support only covers almost a half of total expenses and only can be given on February 2019 while I am expected to arrive in the Netherlands by the end of January. I am very muddled because the day is getting closer yet I haven’t hold enough money while I need to pay some fees beforehand such as visa & residence permit, flight ticket, health insurance, and 3 months of room rent plus its deposit.

Thus, I am making this fundraise in order to ask for some supports for my exchange journey in the Netherlands. The fund will be used for payment in advance such as flight ticket, visa & residence permit, health insurance, and living cost for the first 3 months. The fund is needed as soon as possible as it will be used for payment beforehand as what has been stated earlier. However, I will still open the fundraise during my study abroad period in case the fundraise goal hasn't reached the target yet.I would be very happy and grateful if you would like to help me lightening my burden and achieve my dream to study abroad. I do really appreciate your willingness to help. For surely I will report any progress for the supporters from the beginning until the end of my exchange journey.

Misbahul Muniroh
