Help Manny Fight for his Kidney

On December 2017, Manny (Manuel Banalagay Jr.), our friend and brother from De La Salle University was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease(CKD)/end stage renal failure at the age of 35. The sickness attacked his kidneys which reduced its function to only 5%. This required Manny to undergo dialysis thrice a week in order for him to survive. The cost of dialysis treatment is Php 3,750 plus injection of Php 1,360 totaling Php 5,110 per treatment which amounts to Php 797,160 per year. Fortunately, he has Philhealth (a Philippine government agency that provides subsidies for healthcare to Filipino's with sickness/disease). Philhealth is providing him 90 sessions that will reduce the dialysis treatment from Php 3,750 to Php 400 + the injection of Php 1,360. The reduced cost due to the subsidy is Php 1,760 per treatment. The total cost for the first 90 sessions of the year would be Php 158,400 and the remaining 66 sessions would be php 337,260 bringing the total to php 495,660 per year.

Throughout 2018, Manny's family supported the dialysis treatment. The family knew that dialysis was just a means to prolong Manny's life but in no way was it a permanent solution to his problem. The solution was to find a compatible kidney donor and undergo a kidney transplant.

Fast forward to 2019, one of Manny's sisters was tested and eligible to be a kidney donor. Unfortunately, it was also during this time that Manny's father suffered the very same illness as Manny which prompted him to stop working. Sadly, this untimely event put the family in a bad financial position which forced them to rely on family and friends for financial support. Due to the financial burden, Manny and his family decided to delay the transplant.

Months went by and Manny's condition was worsening by the day. Without a kidney transplant and both of his kidneys working at only 5%, there was no way his body could filter all the harmful wastes and toxins in the body. Impurity in his blood has caused red spotting to develop all over his body (see attached pictures)

Our dear friend and brother has already suffered too long and would be climbing a slippery slope if the transplant will not be done soon. Turning 38 years old this year, he should be at the prime of his life and would have so much more to contribute to this world we live in. Family and friends have decided that its been long enough and that the transplant should be done this month of Febuary. Enumerated below are the expenses for the procedure.
