Campaign Story
Hello. I'm Kay Ross, an Australian in Hong Kong, and I'm asking for your help.
UPDATE, JUNE 28, 2020: Please do NOT try to send funds to me via the "Donate Now" button at the moment. So far, contributions to my campaign have been handled via PayPal, but a few days ago I discovered that PayPal has, without any warning or explanation, "limited" (i.e., permanently cancelled/blocked/frozen) my PayPal account, and I cannot receive or send any funds via my account. Grrr! I will post an update here as soon as I set up a Stripe account, so that you can pay via that site. (Or if you prefer, you can contact me directly to pay me in person or to arrange a direct transfer to my bank account here in Hong Kong.)
Broken Knee
On April 8, 2019, my life changed in an instant when I slipped, fell and fractured my right kneecap. Ouch! I had surgery two days later to wire up the knee, and had to use a leg brace and a cane for 8 weeks.
The kneecap bone has grown back OK, but my knee still isn't bending fully - I can only walk slowly (especially up and down stairs), and I can't run, jump, hop, skip, kneel, squat, crawl, dance the tango... I've been having physiotherapy, but the healing is taking much longer than I expected.
The injury and the slow healing process have seriously affected my energy levels, my usual positive outlook on life, and my ability to exercise, get out and about, and work.
Hong Kong Protests
To make things worse, the protests and violence here in Hong Kong since June last year have been very worrying, and the unpredictability about how long this situation will continue is very stressful, for me and everyone here. I'm self-employed, and over the past few months my income has dropped considerably because my clients and potential clients are cutting back on their expenses.
COVID-19
Since late-January this year, the COVID-19 situation here in Hong Kong has been making life and business even MORE challenging!
Please Help!
Now, after 26.5 years here, I'm seriously considering leaving Hong Kong and returning to Australia – if I do decide to go, there will be lots of expenses associated with that. (And until I leave, or even if I decide to stay, I’ll still have lots of expenses.) Every dollar will help, so I'd be very grateful for any contribution you can make. I promise you lots of hugs, real-world or virtual.
P.S. All the amounts for this campaign are in US dollars, not Hong Kong dollars. And I will receive every dollar you donate, even if I don't reach the targeted amount.

Hi Kay, I know what it's like to go through a challenging time and I'm sending you my love and wishes for your health and abundance. When one is hurting or suffering, we are all impacted. The John Donne poem "No Man Is an Island" keeps coming to mind. I know this amount is not much and I hope that every little bit helps. I haven't worked since November of 2019 and this global situation is affecting all of us. Once I get more cash flow in (which I know will happen soon!), I will be more than happy to make another donation.
