Scouts and Guides of Wadi El Nil (SGWEN) movement was first founded in Egypt in 1933 by Joseph Rabbat and Edgar Rabbat & registered in the Egyptian Federation for scouts and guides.

SGWEN is the most ancient of all national Egyptian scouts; characterized by a scouting heritage that has been passed down through generations.

Since 2014, and every year, Scouts and Guides Wadi El Nil (SGWEN) performs a couple of huge social projects that benefit multiple categories of underprivileged family members:

  1. Let's All Learn project:
    1. 3000 of top and successful but underprivileged students in primary, preparatory and secondary stages are selected to provide them with education fees and school material. These underprivileged students will otherwise -unfortunately- drop out of school and start working at a very young age. We provide them with:
      1. School fees
      2. School Uniform
      3. Stationary
USD $22.00 (350 EGP) is sufficient to help 1 student for 1 academic year (Public school fees, uniform, backpack, a pair of shoes and stationary)
  2. Community school Project:
    1. A three-classroom community school in one of the villages in upper Egypt costs USD $7300.00 (120000 EGP). Price includes:
      1. Construction
      2. Furniture and boards
      3. Fees and staff salaries for the first year
  3. Christmas Tree Projects:
    1. Approaching the end of every year, every member of our movement adopts a social individual case to raise funds for an individual case. However we need more funds to fulfill the most possible number of cases:
      1. Medical issue (surgery, on-going treatment medicines, washing kidneys, artificial limbs..etc.)
        1. Artificial limb: USD $363.00 (6000 EGP)
        2. Regular wheelchair: USD $56.00 (920 EGP)
        3. Cerebral palsy Wheelchair: USD $260.00 (4300 EGP)
      2. Renovating basic houses in slums
        1. A ceiling: USD 363.00 (6000 EGP)
        1. Building a small house: USD $1298.00 (21500 EGP)
      3. Helping in furnishing basic house equipment for newly wedded
        1. Basic house equipment (Stove, refrigerator, kitchen, washing machine): USD $725.00 (12000 EGP)
  4. Small sustainable businesses:
    1. Founding small sustainable projects for poor families:
      1. Kiosk with initial products: USD $241.50 (EGP 4000)
      2. Sewing machines for unemployed moms: USD $194.00 (3200 EGP)
  5. Green SGWEN movement:
    1. We aspire to raise environmental awareness for our 2000 members through the following:
      1. Distributing cotton bags for our members to use instead of plastic bags: USD 1.80 (30 EGP) per bag
      2. Trash cans in each of our scout groups to learn how to separate and recycle: USD $14.50 (EGP 240) per bin
      3. Training our members to plant a tree in their district

This year, we are targeting to reach a larger number of people to expand our impact.
