In April I successfully started a crowd funding to support myself and meet some of the needs of the most vulnerable people of the Jungle camp in Calais.
Since April until today I have managed to keep myself here working and helping others.
With the money that all the amazing donors have given to me, I have managed to buy food supply for myself, buy incontinence nappies for a 14een years old disable boy, I have given some money to an Afghan underage refugee trying to reach his brother in the Jungle from Italy and to two Sudanese man to buy two train tickets to take an elderly and ill Sudanese lady to her new accommodation in a french village. I have also meet the demand of people with specific needs, bought medicine being prescribed by the hospital doctors and helped some of my volunteer friends with money for petrol for hospital runs.
None of this would of been possible without the monetary help from the amazing humans that I know.
I have now reached the 6 months in this camp. I can say that I know most of the people here and they know me. The trust relation between me and them is more strong than ever as I am one of the people that lives and share every struggle with them.
It is now summer and there is an increase of mosquitoes, bad sanitation and children sun burnt.
This time I am asking you even just a small amount in order to help me supply children with sun cream, anti-repellent, sun glasses and sanitary equipment for woman. I will also provide money for train tickets for people needing to reach other cities for application processes, hospital visits, petrol for volunteers doing hospital runs and phone top-ups for the most vulnerable of the Jungle.
Since April many people have made it across but many others are still here. I do not know when my time here is going to end. I do not feel comfortable in leaving behind my friend with his disable boy or the family with the new born baby less than 1 month old or the old Sudanese lady with an autoimmune disease or my Bedun friend being imprisoned more than 1 and half month ago. I am here to be a point of support for all those innocent people that have escaped war to come here and find themselves in another war-like zone.
Many more people are arriving in the Jungle and the one that have been here for long time are still here. Everyone is tired, everyone is emotionally drained and often you can see the result of it on their scarred faces. I have seen people loosing their mind and themselves in this place. People of Europe do not know about it. They cannot imagine what is like to wake up with the smell of tear-gas at 8 o'clock or needing to queue for more than an hour to find that the food is finished. In my two visits to UK and one to Italy I have met many friends, strangers and volunteers from the Jungle. Not many of those people really know or can imagine what is going on in a small city in the north or France.
So please, do not close your eyes to all those innocent people that still everyday are fighting to get the security they deserve.
The French government is now threatening the Jungle with a new eviction. We have already started seeing all the shops and restaurants being emptied of food, power banks (extremely important due to the lack of electricity), top-ups, cooked hot food and bread. People are now hungry, angry and tired. This fundraising has the aim to prepare some financial aid in case of emergency and for daily support of vulnerable people.
I am not going to put a limit to the fundraising as it is never enough what we can do. I hope to get as much money together in order to keep helping.
One of the main thing I have understood with my last trip to Italy and UK is that people have questions about this place, about refugees and about my work in the Jungle camp. So I have decided to answer the questions in order to raise money toward the refugee cause.
When you donate to this fundraising, in the comment or privately, feel free to ask any question and I will update the fundraising page with all the answer that I can give.
This will educate not just you, but all the others that read this fundraising page, bringing some truth to the situation in the camp and at the same time enabling me to keep helping and emotionally support the beautiful souls of the Jungle.
Thank you in advance for your interest and help, even if small will make a difference for many!
THANK YOU, TASHAKUR, SHOUKRAN, MANANA, GRAZIE, MERCI.
From me and all the people of this Jungle!
