The Center for Rapid Recovery, Inc. (CRR) also known as the Training and Research Institute for Cultural Competence is a non-profit 501(c)(3) faith-based minority-focused behavioral healthcare organization established in 1994 to serve ethnically and linguistically diverse residents of Long Island. CRR's mission is to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health and to provide quality care to those without the ability to pay. CRR is located in the Village of Hempstead and viewed as a beacon of hope for the communities of color that suffer with poorer health outcomes and access to quality healthcare than the rest of Long Island. We are dedicated to offering culturally competent and high quality care to people with chemical dependence, developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS, mental health concerns and families of such persons who reside in Long Island, NY.
CRR lost net-deficit funding in the amount of $300, 00 from NYS to serve persons with a substance abuse diagnosis without the ability to pay for quality care. As a result CRR can no longer serve those without the ability to pay or have health insurance. One in five minorities specifically African-Americans are without insurance. Race and ethnicity should not be a barrier to healthcare. In addition to the lost of State funding, CRR suffered financial loss resulting from the impact of Hurricane Sandy resulting in a loss of power for several days. The financial impact is in excess of $65,000 resulting in staff furlough. Donations are requested to help with operation funds to reemploy 12 staff members to full-time status and serve those in need of recovery without the ability to pay for quality care.
