Hello everyone, my name is Daniel Villarreal and I have set up this fundraiser for my sister Monica Villarreal. Since she was a child, she has always been sick with different illnesses but at the beginning she had medical coverage which she doesn’t have right now.

At 25 years old, she has suffered more than anyone should ever have to suffer in a lifetime. In the past 6 months, she has been diagnosed with Lupus, Ankylosing Spondylitis (Arthritis of the Spine) and Crohns disease, all of which are autoimmune diseases which have been added to what she was previously diagnosed with which is Hashimotos Thyroiditis and Fibromyalgia. Every day is a constant struggle for her with these diseases and she finds it hard to even do the simplest of things such as eating and sitting. Every day she has to deal with this and take over 10 different types of medications only to help ease the pain she is continuously in. These ailments have significantly changed her life to what it was before. As a brother, it hurts me more than anything in the world to see my only sister suffer the way she has been for the past years watching helplessly and seeing my sister deteriorate with every month that passes. From a strong willed and hardworking addictions counselor, she has transitioned to a full-time prisoner of her own body.

Monica graduated in the Top 10% of her high school class in 2006 and then received a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation with a concentration in Drug Addiction from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2010. Her dream in life was to the help those who were forgotten in today’s society. She has always been a helper and doer and committed 110% of her time and effort toward helping others and regretted nothing by doing so. Saving people from their addictions and their habits was something that she loved doing. Coming home from work and telling us how good she felt by just helping one person a day was something that brought her so much happiness. However, as she progressed in her career, so did her diseases. Though she struggled through her day to day life, her illnesses consequently forced her out of the career she most loved.

I am here today writing to whomever is reading this in order to seek help for my sister. As I mentioned before, she had been able to receive the medical help she needed, my mom had us on her insurance through her work. My mom lost her job and medical insurance on October 31, 2012 because she had extensive back surgery during April of that same year and had a lot of complications and the doctor has not released her to continue working. He has actually written a letter stating she is disabled. We do not have the financial means in order to continue to help my sister anymore and have gone through state and local county programs for help and have been turned away with little or no luck at all. The Social Security Administration has denied her benefits twice and she is currently waiting to go to court for that. As you can see we have run out of options. We continue to help her every day as much as we possibly can but there is only so much we can do without the medical attention she needs. I have created this fundraising page in order to try and help my sister with the medical care she needs. All donations given will go to Monica, for medical care and expenses that she requires. Anything will help. Our family will greatly appreciate any and all help that she receives.

The following are the medications that she is currently taking in order to relieve the amount of pain she is in as well as to relieve other complications that she suffers from:

  1. Methotrexate
  2. Duragesic Patch
  3. Skelaxin
  4. Plaquenil
  5. Asiphex
  6. Lopressor
  7. Savella
  8. Zofran
  9. Synthroid
  10. Cytomel
  11. Lactulose

If anyone would like more information on her condition or has any questions please feel free to contact my mom Silvia at [email protected] or myself at [email protected]. We will be more than happy to answer any questions regarding this fundraiser and Monica. Thank you so much for your time.

  • Thank you very much Mr. Hwang. I'm so glad to hear that this fundraiser is getting seen by many especially on Facebook and I'm ultimately grateful for that. And it is never about the amount but the thought. Thank you so much!

  • I found this out from Bridgett Rodriguez via Facebook. Just wanted to say I admire what you are doing for your sister. I know my contribution may be little but I hope it helps in some way for your sister. God bless you and your family in this difficult time and I pray you all will make it through together and stronger than before.

  • You guys can get through this! Sometimes we experience the unthinkable and we can not let it get the best of us. You CAN persevere. It always seems impossible until it's done.%93%94 ? • Daniel, this is very kind of you. You are, by all means, the best brother she or anyone could have. It makes me very happy and so proud that you care so much for her and your family as a whole. You my friend, deserve Heaven. God bless you and your family. I wish I could contribute more but I am unable to. I'm sorry. But I do hope that this little contribute will help in any little. Your sister will be in my prayers. And God willing, she will get better.
