A Difficult Start

After graduating from the Herzing University in 2016 with an Honors in Software Development, Hollie Alexander was ready to move forward with her career. But a major surgery, left her with irreversible damage to her lower extremities. With her funds running dangerously low, no unemployment benefits or loan qualifications, and three children (aged 5, 7, and 12) to care for on just $1,400 a month, she had to find a safety net, and fast.

HTD GAMES-N-TOYS

One of the major reasons Hollie began by offering her specific brand of toy cars and bikes (now her bestsellers) through her online drop-shipping business, is because they weren’t sold in the US, which meant there was little to no competition, and a chance to corner the potential market. Pinching pennies from the little she had, Hollie started the slow process of getting a logo created, registering her company, and had to design a website all by herself due to limited funds.

While third party-sites like Amazon and eBay are very popular with drop-shippers, the Amazon monthly fees are much too high for her to afford, and with the inability to stock up on inventory, it’s difficult to draw customers to her eBay store with the limited offerings. Hollie would also like to have a local storefront in the near future.

Even so, Hollie is more than a year into her business and still giving it her all. She has expanded her product selection and continues to be passionate about offering gaming and accessory bundles for popular systems like Sony VR, PS4 bundle, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, at costs as much as $20-$40 lower than major competitors like Walmart, Game Stop, and Target.

What’s Needed

Hollie Alexander built her business from the ground up, shaping HTD GAMES-N-TOYS into a relatively successful business without support or stable finances. With our help, she can do so much more.

The $115,000 raised from this campaign would contribute to her inspiring other minority women to never give up when it comes to being their own boss. They will know it is possible to have their own profitable business. The funds will also contribute to her website overhaul and eCommerce system development, inventory, social media advertising and strategy, and other business expenses.
