Helping Karen get back on two feet

On the morning of November 10 Karen was going to work on her motorbike when she was hit by a car. There was nothing she could do to avoid it and the collision was nearly fatal. We are beyond grateful that some angel friends with paramedic training were there when it happened and did all the right things to keep her alive at the scene. We are elated that she is with us still.

Karen was left with a below the knee amputation. The first few weeks have been pain-filled and traumatic and she is coping with a great deal of shock. After three surgeries in County and Keck hospitals with their wonderful staff who we are also eternally grateful to, Karen has just returned home. Although confronted with daily challenges, we are marveling at her spirit and strength.

We are raising funds to help Karen get back on her feet, literally. She liked that joke ☺. Karen grew up on a motorbike so life will definitely be different but she is the type of person to get up, dust off and charge onwards. This fundraiser is to help her get through the immediate costs and do that.

In the immediate future are her basic needs. She is a dedicated hairstylist, which she physically cannot do for the foreseeable future. Her surgery wounds need to heal for several months before being fitted for a prosthetic leg and then her body will have to adjust to it. This accident is life changing, and while Karen is determined to get back to work, the challenges are many. As well as physical and mental struggles right now there are hospital bills, prosthetics and hopefully lots of physical therapy. We are told to expect only partial help at the mercy of insurance and government with the massive costs.

Karen has been a rock for many when times have been tough. She is infamous for posting requests for help and doing fundraisers and rescuing all the animals.
