Joe Hayden is a widowed research consultant, community volunteer and involved grandfather who has fought an inherited autoimmune disease since 1993. This disease caused blood clots, major hearing loss, muscle weakness, joint pain and liver disease, which placed him in a liver transplant program. With the help of the medical community, family and friends, Joe managed these problems and returned to his community work and research several times. However, these illnesses limited his income opportunities and the continuing medical costs depleted his life savings. Recently, chronic disabling pain was diagnosed as osteoarthritis of the right hip which will require a hip replacement. Joe is an acitve person and so this newest setback has been particularly discouraging now that he is alone.
The goal is to use the donations to get Joe through this latest challenge and back to his volunteer, work and grandfather duties. Medicare insurance does not pay for all hip replacement costs but there are additional equipment, home modification, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and transportation costs, as well a continued cost of living expenses which must be paid while he is incapacitated. Your help will be paid forward!
