Helping Hands for Aiden

Update posted by Juanita Oosthuizen On Jan 22, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Aiden has been getting his injections daily, but there has been no clear indication of it working. Aiden remains at 7,7kg - the same as before he started with the treatment. He might have grown slightly in length, but it is very subtle.

Currently we are waiting for confirmation from the medical aid to see what they will approve to pay in terms of the follow-up tests and appointments. The dosage of the medication might need to be adjusted.

The last time I video called my brother and sister—in-law Aiden was dancing and having a good time listening to the “Gummy bear” Song 🤣

He is a true survivor and he loves life! I hope to meet him and his brother in person someday! 🥰🥰

Please keep sharing our cause - Aiden’s journey is going to be a long one.

Lots of love

Juanita

The treatment educator explained the procedure to us, it is quite simple as it is the same as an insulin pen. The needle size is 4mm and it is the smallest that exist. He will get 4 clicks of the pen daily, administered once a day. Not supposed to have any side effects as it is a natural hormone being injected. I had to test with a needle, it is so small that I didn't feel it, but my body fat percentage is a lot more than Aiden. We should be able to see a difference in size within the next 3 months.

Treatment: We have officially completed 3 injections of which we did the first one when he was sleeping, as he would not see the pen or needle, it felt mean to desturb his sleep. So the two injections following, we did it just after bath at night, which worked out well but his sleeping pattern is being interrupted. So from tomorrow we will inject him in the morning to see if he goes back to sleeping through the night again. This little body will be working very hard to adjust with the hormone and growing , but we have faith that he will be the strong fighter he has always been.

This is such a big learning experience for us and very scary and we thank everyone for their morale support and prayers.

Sincerely

Aiden's Mommy

Sorry for being so quiet, trying to get everything sorted with the medical aid. This is Aiden's growth chart, indicating why he urgently needs this treatment.

Got feedback from the medical aid regarding the registration for his PMB for the growth hormone treatment, it is definitely declined as it is not part of their PMB list. I will be applying for ex gratia, but like I was informed it is not a definite and should not expect an answer either.

Thank you so much for all the love and support, from the money donated and the messages sent.

With love
