Helping Hand for Little Lucas Thirdy

Greetings everyone! This is my nephew, Lucas Thirdy and he is 7 months old. He was born last March 10,2020 with Down Syndrome and stayed at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 2 months because of neonatal sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis. With God's grace and mercy, he was able to survive that two months and recovered from those serious infection. Unfortunately, the doctors found out that he possibly have this congenital disease called Hirschsprung Disease wherein he can't pass stool on a regular basis because there are parts of his intestine that has no nerve cells. The doctors said that only surgery can correct this condition so he needs to grow and have enough weight to carry on with the surgery. They told our family that he must do colonic irrigation everyday to help decompress his stomach and prevent further infection before doing the surgery.

He has done several diagnostic tests to confirm if this is really Hirschsprung Disease. He underwent Barium Enema and Rectal Suction Biopsy to confirm his condition. After the tests has been made, the results came out and it is confirmed that he really have Hirschsprung Disease.

Months have passed but sadly, he is currently admitted at Cardinal Santos Medical Center via Charity Service because of fever and diarrhea for the past few days. The doctors said that he has Enterocolitis which is very common among patients with Hirschsprung Disease. They said that colonic irrigation wasn't enough and bacterias might really stay on his stomach because of the obstruction in his intestines. The doctors said that Lucas Thirdy have to undergo three (3) major operations:

1. Colostomy - Surgical procedure that brings out a part of the intestine outside the abdominal wall
2. Pull-through Procedure - The corrective procedure for patients with Hirschsprung Disease, involving the removal of the abnormal segment of the bowels that has no nerve cells
3. Colostomy Closure

These are all major operations and are done with intervals to help his little body cope up from the stress of surgical procedures. He is now scheduled for the colostomy procedure this coming Wednesday, October 21, 2020. They had to do it to give his intestine time to heal before doing the pull-through procedure and prevent enterocolitis from happening again.

I know we are going through a tough time right now because of the pandemic but still we are trying our best to reach out to everyone's kind heart to help Lucas Thirdy's battle with Hirschsprung. Though we are under the charity care of the hospital, we still have to pay for the hospital bills except for the doctor's professional fee.

I made this fundraising project for my nephew because we are really in need of financial aid for his surgery. Any amount you choose to give will be greatly appreciated. We are also asking everyone to please pray for his successful operation this coming Wednesday. Thank you very much!
