Lucio lost both his parents in 2014 and little he knew this was only the beginning of a very painful journey.
I'm friends with Lucio since early teens. We went to school together hanged around together during break. As we grew up, we developed interest for similar things like games and music, to a point where we formed a band for some time. After some years, I moved abroad and we kept in touch via skype or phone. He's a great friend! And a fighter!
He met Leila, to whom he got married and kept by his side ever since. Leila was a single mother when they met and Lucio adopted Leila's son, William, some time after they got married. I witnessed the dream of a family being born.
Lucio's mother for long struggled with a number of health issues. Despite all medical efforts, it only got worse over the years to the point she passed away in Jan 2014. Soon after, Lucio's father succumbed to a heart failure in march, same year.. Needless to say how devastating it was for him.
During these years helping his mother, he took on 2 jobs to cover the medical costs of looking after his mother, he also moved in with his family to his mother house just so he could spend more time looking after her. After his parents passed away, Lucio took over the family's business affairs and what could be a relief turned to be into more pain, since some half-brothers of Lucio sued him in the hopes to take part in the heritage left by his father. The case continues.
Amidst of all this came the shocking news: Lucio was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. Not very long after this, a few nodes were also found in his testicles and, more recently, a couple of nodes in his lungs. Lucio has been doing chemotherapy for the past 8 months. The intense treatment has debilitated his body to the point he can no longer work. His wife's paycheck can barely cover their expenses. That’s why I am here.
I'm pleading for my friend’s life and his family. Every penny donated will serve to cover their daily expenses and medical treatment. Please help!
But don't stop there. If you have been through some serious sort of disease, you know how lonely place it can be. I therefore encourage every reader to send letters of support and encouragement. Words can warm the heart during cold seasons such as these.
If you would like to get in touch with him, please let me know.
