I am a Yemeni woman but I was born and raised in a different country. My husband is also a Yemeni and is living in another country away from me. We used to travel between these two countries every 6 months or so. But since War has started in Yemen, we couldn’t meet each other (since 2015). That is because the countries we are residents in have banned Yemenis from entering. We didn't imagine that such thing will happed to us and that our nationalities will prevent us from traveling and living together!
Unfortunately, because we are not able to stay in one of these two countries, we have to move to Yemen! We are terrified of going to Yemen during war and poverty. I am also very sad that I will have to leave my father and siblings behind!
Life in Yemen during War is not suitable for living or raising a family because there is no jobs or income and they lack in food, healthcare and education. We want our children to be able to get better healthcare, education and achieve their dreams.
I'm and will still be an optimistic and ambitious woman. I have completed my BA degree in English Studies with a GPA of 3.5 and worked as a translator for different companies. And I still have plans for future to get MA in linguistic and to be able to teach English in schools.
But despite all of that dreams and ambitions, women in my Yemeni town can't/not allowed to do anything and they are not treated respectfully. They are forced to quite schools and banned from going to hospitals to get medical treatments. They are suffering from gender-based traditional practices where men can do and say anything to them.
I am afraid that my girls will suffer from these acts. I want my girls to be able to continue their education and be able to work and have their rights.
Instead of moving to Yemen and we want to apply for immigration to Canada as skilled workers. I wish somehow we could have a chance to live a better life!
This campaign is to help us immigrate to Canada as skilled workers and to help us raise the funds for the required paperwork and fees associated as well as travel costs.
