I am raising money for a South African taxi driver, Jack Arthur Williams, in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, one of the most poorest and dangerous areas in South Africa.

This kind soul was driving around, driving around his 12 customers when he saw a lady frantically waving to stop anyone to help her. This lady had her 13 year old daughter with her, who was having epileptic fits and could not wait for the ambulance to arrive.

Jack stopped for this lady, already having 12 customer in his taxi and offered to take her to the hospital. This is what he said, “When I saw what condition the child was in, I didn’t hesitate, I asked the passengers if I can take her to hospital. The 12 passengers said ‘driver, drive!’.

Jack was driving on the shoulder of the lane, going at a fast speed as the girl’s tongue had started turning blue and her eyes were rolled back in her head. This is when a police officer stopped him, confiscating his professional license and giving him a R6000 (approximately $450) fine, even after Jack explained the situation.

That did not deter Jack, and instead of trying to deal with this crisis and satisfying his 12 other customers, Jack left his taxi behind and accompanied the lady and her daughter to the hospital. “I left the taxi there because I am a father and this is a life,” he explained.

We should all contribute towards helping Jack pay his fine, as well as make up any money in lost revenue. We should also help Jack out, as there is very little kindness left in the world, therefore whenever someone goes above and beyond what is needed, we should appreciate that.
