Hospital Expenses & Treatment Assistance for Danilo Cantre

First of all, I would like to thank you for the extended help offered to assist us with my ailing father, Danilo Cantre, who is battling respiratory complications, diabetes and Covid-19. We greatly appreciate all donations, no matter how big or small, as this will go a long way.

My father has been the breadwinner of the family until we, 2 of his children, are able to sustain for ourselves. As a taxi driver, he has really striven hard so that he can provide for our needs. I even remember when my brother has to be taken to a hospital due to an asthma. He would take day & night shifts in order to pay the hospital bills and, at the same time, provide food in our table. Luckily, my brother was discharged by then and you would really see relief from my father’s face. We’ve never been grateful for his support althroughout. Few years have passed, my sister and I were able to graduate and became self-sufficient. But my father would still drive a taxi because he always said that he’d rather keep himself busy than depend on his children. After all, that’s been his routine and he was happy.

However, his health deteriorated in 2013. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis and he has to quit job temporarily. As a result, the rest of the family members, including my mom and sister, would become the main provider and make ends meet. Six months passed and my father has fully recovered in God’s grace. He returned to his usual job as a taxi driver and he’s been healthy ever since. But came 2019, we noticed that he easily becoming exhausted physically with recurring cough. Also, he became very skinny that we couldn’t help but notice. We suspected that his tuberculosis resurfaced so we advised him to visit a doctor. He was recommended to take off from work again and take the necessary oral medications to recover. He didn’t become well since. Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened. The rest of my family who has been employed would abruptly stop from working when the lockdown started. This is a tremendous blow to our daily income. Good thing, I am still able to maintain my job working from home but it would never be enough to be the sole provider of the family. My father was then admitted to the hospital last August 14, 2020 and as expected, his tuberculosis came back with matching diabetes. He has been getting the medical attention he fully deserved and, thankfully, his blood sugar level improved except for his recurring cough. The doctor then recommended swab test and we waited for 1 week to get his result only to find out that he is Covid-19 positive. The worse part is, my brother is the one tasked to look over my father, and he was suspected to acquire the virus as well. His result is still pending to be released next week.

As of this writing, our hospital bills have already skyrocketed to ₱99,714.99 ($2,000 if converted to US$) and it will keep on increasing as weeks go by. I am still hopeful that his repeat swab test will turn out to be negative along with my brother’s. If not, it would be hard for me to pay this huge amount given the limited income and savings I have. With this, I am asking for your kind hearts to help my family during these trying times and give my father a chance to live a normal life again and hug the family that he loves so dearly.
