This is a fundraiser for a good friend of mine to help her get back on her feet. Amie lost a big chunk of her life this weekend.
Amie is a Photographer by trade. It's her livelihood. She is a wedding, newborn and lifestyle photographer. I started this campaign because she has lost her only source of income and her entire life's savings at a photography workshop two weeks ago.
The photography workshop was supposed to be an opportunity to finally be able to use a lens that she has spent her entire life's savings on. She had wrestled with the purchase for months before finally taking a leap of faith to enable her to produce even better images for her clients. Her camera, a Canon 750D as well as her new lens, a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 (~R21 000 | $1500) got loose from the tripod and plummeted off a cliff into 6m of water while she was taking photos. We tried everything we could to retrieve it, but the water was too deep and unclear to locate and fish it out. In a last hopeful effort to find help with the right equipment, Amie offered a R1000 ($70) reward to whoever could retrieve the camera from the water. Two afternoons later the camera was found by 3 very skilled people, but after enquiring from industry experts the camera was deemed unrepairable.
Amie doesn't have the means to replace her equipment. She unfortunately didn't have the chance to purchase insurance either. If you have ever met her or ever had the pleasure to become her friend, you will know what a wonderful and caring person she is. She could really use our help to get her back on her feet and to be able to continue her career. The funds raised in this campaign will help cover the replacement of her camera and lens, as well as the R1000 reward to Sinead Hatting and her team of divers (Jaco and Theunis).
It has been an incredibly difficult financial year for her, and this was the last nail in her career's coffin. Please help Amie be able to continue her passion of Photography. We will be entirely grateful for any donation you can spare, and with that donation you will enter a draw to win a free Photoshoot in the Garden Route by Amie. Please visit her Facebook page "And so it is Photography" for more details.
Note: We are fundraising in US$ because it is a significantly lower fee to pay using Paypal. Should this become a problem we will switch platforms.
Thank you all and God Bless!
