I am Jade Karrie Palma, a high school student from a public high school: Iloilo National High School in Iloilo City, Philippines.
I am an aspiring Researcher who aims to share her research studies and projects to the community to be able to provide knowledge and information to people about what it is that we can do.
My previous research projects involved finding an effective antifungal agent for a specific disease in mangoes, and the use of an invasive plant in order to produce nanosilica which can be used for industrial and medical applications. These projects of mine have already reached the National level competition for high school research in the Philippines. As a student, funding my own research was already a big problem since I didn't have sponsors. However, I did not let that stop me from following my passion. This passion for science and research motivated me to join various programs, both locally and internationally
Last August 2018, I got accepted to the Junior Academy of the New York Academy of Sciences. It is a program under the Global STEM Alliance where students from all over the world participate in challenges in order to find solutions to the problems that we are facing today. I have already joined 3 challenges, and I would love to be able to join more.
This July, I would the Global STEM Alliance would be having its annual Summit in New York and I was invited to join the Summit. However, due to the lack of funding and financial situations fast declining, I don't have enough money to pay for airfare and a place to stay in New York.
I believe that this Summit would be life changing for me and I would be able to use what I would learn to improve myself and be able to share it to my fellow Filipinos as well, especially to student researchers like me.
I would like to ask for your kindness to help me make it to the Summit.
