Dear potential donors

My name is Xenel Williams. I am 26 years old and I stay in a town called Paarl that is situated in the Western Cape in South Africa. I am enrolled at the University of South Africa(UNISA) for a 4-year Bachelor of Accounting Sciences degree and I am specializing in Financial Accounting. Currently I am in my third year and I will be completing my degree in December 2021.

Since high school my dream was to become a Chartered Accountant. I was inspired by my uncle as he is a Chartered Accountant. Seeing his work ethic, his dedication to his work, how disciplined he is and all his success that he achieved, really inspired and influenced me in all the right ways. From that time forward my mind was set on becoming a Chartered Accountant.

With that in mind, I strive to achieve academic excellence. But my family got a setback in 2010 when my father suffered a massive stroke and became paralyzed on his right-side and also wheelchair-bound. Even before his stroke, we suffered financially. After his stroke, things went from bad to worse. At this point we survived on my father's disability grant as well as my grandmother's old age pension grant. Our dire financial circumstances and living conditions became even more motivation for me to excel and reach my dreams.

The next year, 2011, I matriculated with 4 A's and an average of 78%. I was the top achiever in Grade 12. I took a gap year in 2012 and worked on improving my mathematics mark. At the end of 2012 I rewrote Mathematics, improved my mark and gained admission to study Bachelor of Financial Accounting in 2013 at Stellenbosch University. I got bursaries as well as accommodation at Res. All was going well, until another setback hit.

In 2014, my 2nd year at Stellenbosch University, things were not going financially well at home. So then, I made the most difficult decision and decided to leave my full-time studies and go work for my family to relieve some financial pressure. In 2015 I decided to pursue distance learning at the University of South Africa(UNISA) while working a retail job. Things went well, until 2017 when my father passed away suffering a major stroke again, causing organ failure. I was devastated, so much so that in 2018 I ended being not able to sit for a few exams which caused me to lose my bursary. I could not cope at work and this affected my studies, which led me to the decision to resign my job.

So now, fast forward to 2020, I am unemployed, unable to pay my own studies as well as my registration fee. My mother is 59-years old, unemployed as well and takes care of my 92-year old grandmother. Financially things are not going well at home. That is why I want to get my degree, to improve our living situation as well as our future. I want to take care of my family. I want to be successful. I want to become a CA(SA). By now, you will have determined from reading my story, that I am a fighter, that I do not give up easily and that I am a hard worker. Please help me raise funds to at least pay my registration fee and to buy books to continue my studies this year. I have a dream. And all I ask is that you help make my dream a reality. By helping me, you are helping my family.

Thank you
