Hello everyone! My name is wan 34 years old I was diagnosed with gout in year 2015 and has been struggling with severe chronic Gout
A little back story on how this started. It started with my right foot flaring up and not being able to walk at all for a few days. The pain increased and I finally went to local clinic and find out it was gout. After taking a blood test the doctor told me my acid uric levels were high around 500++ umol/l then the normal amount, doctor recommend to take corticosteroid injections to reduce pain and inflammation caused by gout and doctor give pain killer and colchicine if I have gout attack again. The doctor advice to control my diet and reduce body weight. After that my gout attack on and off nothing serious only attack my foot. In year 2018 my gout disease starting to come back and getting serious. I can’t move my body at all, I had to go to the hospital immediately and have to warded for a week. After having some checking with rheumatology, the doctor told me that I have tophi (concentrations of uric acid crystals) ankles, knees, elbows, wrists, and fingers also my creatinine levels are high because of tophi and after discharged, the doctor prescribed medicine febuxostat 80 mg one tablet a day to reduce acid uric level and colchicine 0.5mg to prevent increased flare-ups of gout when first start on a medicine febuxostat. Around 2019 my life was completely changed upside down because tophi start to cover up all my joint especially fingers and knee because of that my fingers unable to move or grip properly and my knee cannot fold, I’m having a difficulty to ride motorcycle and drive car, apart from that, I can’t work due to my condition. Currently I am jobless and no income, but I have to go to hospital for further check up every six months to monitor my acid uric level and creatinine level. I seek your kindness to donate in order for me to continue living and pay medical bills.
May God repay your kindness.
Gout is a common and painful condition that affects the joints. Small crystals form in and around the joint, causing inflammation, pain and swelling. These crystals are made of one of the body’s normal waste products, uric acid. Normally the body rids itself of extra uric acid through the kidneys into the urine. However this does not happen fast enough in people with gout. This causes uric acid levels to build up and the crystals to form.
Common Symptoms of Gout
Pain that migrates: Gout usually affects the big toe, but it can also occur in the ankles, knees, elbows, wrists, and fingers. The symptoms are rarely symmetrical, and the location varies from flare to flare. For example, an attack in the left big toe might be followed by an attack in the right toe, and the next gout attack might strike one of the knees or wrists.
Tophi: Over time, people with chronic gout can develop tiny, hard lumps in the affected joints. These lumps, called tophi, are concentrations of uric acid crystals. They can also form in the kidneys and lead to kidney stones.
