Campaign Story
Recent fires have devastated the Garden Route of South Africa, resulting in several deaths, the evacuation of over 10,000 people and the destruction of hundreds of homes. This area holds a special place in my heart as I've spent numerous holidays in the area, staying with my grandmother in nearby Plettenberg Bay. I also conducted research for my Ph.D. along the Garden Route, including in the Knysna Forest. I have numerous friends and colleagues that have been devastated by the fires, losing everything.
I am, therefore, appealing to anyone who is able and willing to offer financial support. The money I raise will go directly to victims that have been affected and also to assist children from the local high school. Many students stayed on campus and as the dorms have been completely destroyed. These students have lost everything.
As an American living in South Africa, I am hoping some of my friends and family abroad will be able to contribute, which is the purpose of creating this page. A few dollars go a long way in South Africa!
Any assistance you are willing to provide would be MUCH appreciated. I will provide updates as the money is transferred to those who need it.
NOTE: The fundraiser is in USD because PayPal doesn't support ZAR. All the money will be deposited into my account at which point I will transfer the money to the people and organizations in need.
