HELP US WIN THIS FIGHT AGAINST CANCER!
As we, along with the world, continues the fight with COVID-19, my mom (Aurelia Lumibao, 60 years of age) was taken into another battle.
In September, after spending a lot of time in the hospital and undertaking tests, she was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. To be specific, the Doctors’ notes were: “diagnosed with sigmoid mass to consider malignancy with pulmonary metastases and underwent surgical operation of flexible sigmoidoscopy with biopsy and exploratory laparotomy, proctocolectomy, colostomy, adhesion lysis.”
These words are foreign for most people who do not have a medical background, including us. But all of these words only mean one thing for our family – “let’s fight!”
3 years ago, my Mom’s sister fought this battle too. Unfortunately, Cancer is one opponent that keeps on giving and giving until it’s their turn to finally take. My Aunt was sadly taken away from us by the same enemy that is now currently confronting my Mom. This is not the history that our family would want to repeat; this is not a tradition that our family would want to start. So, upon hearing the news, putting up a brave face and determined heart, we confirm to the Doctor that we will do everything to make sure that my Mom wins this battle. Sadly, as with every battle that each of us has to face, it comes with consequences. There will be no right time for Cancer to come in someone’s life but facing this as the world faces COVID-19 is especially harder. Our energy and determination are boundless but in reality, that alone is not enough to win this. The resources that we need to fight this battle with are limited.
I am a single child, single-handedly caring for my Mom – from physically attending to her needs to financially covering all the expenses. This disease is acting fast and as of this moment, we have exhausted our financial resources. We are still nowhere near the end of the battle and we are kindly asking for help with this fight. With the continuous medication and treatment, including chemotherapy, we would need any help we can get.
Thank you for reading this and letting me share our life with you. This is a difficult time for most people and we gladly appreciate any help you can provide us. Setting up a fund raiser is one of the ways we thought of to produce additional funds for her treatment. Her treatment options are still vast, and we still have time. I am humbly asking for your help, to support her medications in the hopes of providing her a longer life spent with her loved ones. A single cent can help my mom and change our lives.
