Co byś zrobił gdybyś dowiedział się, że osoba, którą kochasz i na której Ci zależy umiera?

Jestem pewna, że gdyby pojawiła się nadzieja, nawet ta najmniejsza, bez zastanowienia zrobiłbyś wszystko by pomóc ukochanej osobie.

Prosimy Was o wsparcie w walce naszego taty z rzadką i nie do końca poznaną w Polsce chorobą: Amyloidozą.

Byliśmy zwyczajną rodziną, taką jakich wiele. Gdybyś spotkał mojego tatę wczesną wiosną zeszłego roku, poznałbyś spełnionego mężczyznę, który jest wsparciem dla swojej żony i dwóch córek. Najprawdopodobniej zacząłby opowiadać Ci o swoich najświeższych osiągnięciach crossfitowych, a w przypływie emocji pokazałby Ci najlepsze ćwiczenia na plecy i pośladki. W międzyczasie pewnie próbowałby namówić Ciebie do zaczęcia swojej przygody z crossfitem. W jego życiu zawsze na pierwszych miejscach była rodzina, sport i zdrowie. Los niestety mocno z niego zadrwił, a te ostatnie już nie jest czymś nad czym nasz tata ma kontrolę.

Początek choroby nie był oczywisty. Tata narzekał na wieczne zmęczenie i brak siły, ale komu z nas nie zdarzyło się narzekać w podobny sposób? Jedni mówili, że to przesilenie wiosenne, inni, że pora na urlop. Jedynym niepasującym elementem tej układanki był piekący ból stóp. Kiedy więc sen i odpoczynek nie pomogły, a piekący ból stóp zaczął się nasilać, zaczęło się szukanie przyczyny.

W kwietniu zeszłego roku, po raz pierwszy umówił się do lekarza. Parametry krwi i ciśnienie krwi były w normie. Innymi słowy nie było niczego, co mogłoby wzbudzić niepokój.

W zdrowym organizmie białka są biodegradowalne. Amyloidoza to choroba, w której atypowe białka – amyloidy nie są rozkładane i usuwane z organizmu. Oznacza to, że w ciele naszego taty odkładają się białka we wszystkich tkankach i organach, a pozostawione bez leczenia, prowadzą do niewydolności wielonarządowej, co prowadzi do szybkiej śmierci.

I tutaj zaczyna się nasz wyścig z czasem. Niestety amloidoza jest chorobą nie zbyt dobrze znaną w Polsce, nieliczne są też schematy jej leczenia. Do tej pory, 3 pierwsze cykle chemioterapii nie przyniosły pożądanych efektów.

Leczenie pacjentów z amyloidozą odbywa się w wysoce zindywidualizowany sposób, wszystko zależy od typu amyloidozy oraz od organów, które są zajęte. Niestety często terapia, która działa u jednego pacjenta, nie działa na innego. W związku z tym, że jest to choroba tak nieznana, brak jest schematów leczenia poszczególnych przypadków.

Na szczęście dowiedzieliśmy się o możliwości leczenia w Londynie (National Amyloidosis Centre), gdzie nasz tata mogłby zostać poddany bardzo szczegółowej diagnostyce.

Niestety koszty leczenia są bardzo wysokie. Sama diagnostyka to koszt 6000 funtów, a koszt jednego cyklu chemioterapii może być wielokrotnie wyższy. Dlatego prosimy wszystkich o pomoc.

Mamy nadzieje, że z Waszą pomocą uda nam się zebrać konieczne środki i dać mu szanse na powrót do zdrowia, żeby chociaż jeszcze raz w życiu mógł zrobić to co kocha. Dać mu szanse na powrót do codziennych aktywności, do wychodzenia na spacery, szanse do uprawiania sportu, który tak kocha. Szanse na poczucie bezpieczeństwa, że znowu ma kontrolę nad swoim życiem, żeby znowu mógł spędzać z nami czas bez poczucia, że czas ucieka i coś się kończy.

Ta zbiórka daje nam nadzieje, że i dla naszej rodziny znajdzie się szczęśliwe zakończenie.

I hope that any of you who are reading this will never have to be in the situation that our family is right now - in a spot, where one of us is slowly being eaten away by a disease.

Jacek, a loving husband and a father of our family, is fighting with a rare disease called amyloidosis. There is still hope, as the disease has proved to be manageable with advanced treatment. Unfortunately, this treatment is currently out of reach for him.

With your help, we would be able to able to get him the treatment he needs.

We used to be a regular family, like any other. If you would have met my dad last spring, you would have seen a happy, content man who is a great support to his wife and two daughters. He would have told you about his cross-fit achievements and most probably he would have invited you to join him. Two of the most important things in life for him have always been family and staying fit and healthy. But misfortune has befallen us and his health is not something that he has control over anymore.

The onset of his disease was not obvious. He felt tired often, had no power for doing everyday chores and had this weird feeling of numbing feet. But as more sleep and rest didn't help him, he started looking for the cause.

In April of 2017, our dad went to the doctor for the first time. His blood and urine tests were fine, so nobody really considered his symptoms as serious. He kept on signing appointments to different doctors, but there was still no answer for his worsening health condition.

Finally, in the autumn of 2017, a high level of proteins was found in his urine. Doctors performed a kidney biopsy, which showed the deposits of amyloid proteins in his kidneys. Soon after that we heard his diagnosis: amyloidosis, a disease that is very rare and fatal.

In a healthy organism proteins are biodegradable. Amyloidosis is a disease in which abnormal proteins (amyloid) are resistant to being broken down. That means that in our dad’s body proteins accumulate in different tissues and organs and if the condition is left untreated, this eventually causes the failure of organs (heart, kidney, liver etc.) and leads to a fast death.

And so started our race against time. Unfortunately amyloidosis is not a well known disease in Poland, so only a limited amount of treatment possibilities are known and available. Until now, the first three cycles of chemotherapy turned out to not work as well as they should and this is making us worried.

The treatment of a patient with amyloidosis is highly individual and depends on the organs involved and the type of amyloidosis and even then, treatment that would work on one person, might not work on the other. It is not a well known disease and there is no common accepted cure. The research for new ways of treatment is ongoing.

We believe, that he would be able to get a treatment plan with the most current treatment options tailored just for him in the Amyloidosis Centre in London, a place that is specialised in the research and treatment of amyloidosis. There have been numerous success stories involving their treatment, so this is a possibility to greatly increase his chances of overcoming the disease.

Unfortunately the cost of the treatment is really high. Just to get an assessment would cost over 6000 pounds and one cycle of chemotherapy can cost many times more than this. That is why we are kindly asking for your help.

Hopefully we can raise enough money to give him the chance to once more be able to do all the things that he is missing. A chance to be active again, a chance to be able to go outside without having to rest on the way countless times. A chance to get the peace that everything is under control in his life once more, so he can spend time with us, feeling truly happy, without the heaviness deep inside.

What if this is our last summer? What if in July we will celebrate his last birthday? I have tried not to think about this, but the black scenarios keep appearing involuntarily. The opportunity here gives us hope and makes us believe that our story will have a happy ending.
