How your donations would help us:

1. Financing the monthly rent of $300 for the current accommodation.

2. Covering costs of medical care for children, if needed.

3. School supplies and uniforms are mandatory and have to be paid for by the parents. We help those who can't afford with buying school uniforms, shoes, paper, books, pens, lunch boxes and everything necessary to ensure the children are able to access school education and experience social contact.

4. We are in urgent need of more housing space to accommodate more children and their mothers.

5. A larger area of land and accommodation, to provide the space where children can play, recover and heal in a safe, clean, nurturing and loving environment.

6. Allow for more resources (ie. more staff and economic capabilities) to support Sonja to continue her amazing work.

About us

The shelter "Casa de Restauracion" is a private social non-profit organization that offers a safe environment for women and children. The shelter was founded two years ago by a wonderful woman named Sonja Piez Bautista, who created a home to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment. The demand for her private shelter is desperately growing but due to the limited space at their current location, she is at present only able to provide full-time care for 5 children maximum without their mothers.

Should this shelter not exist, the heartbreaking alternative would be the children being taken into the care of the state, away from their families.

Alongside providing a home, love and full-time care, Sonja also visits the houses of 45 other children living in poverty providing food, clothing, school necessities, emotional support and above all to ensure the children are not neglected.

With your help, we want to create a Family Shelter, with a dorm room capacity for boys and girls separately and one dedicated for the women. This would allow these women to be together and share their experiences while offering a safe space to recover from their own trauma.

We need your help to raise money through the GoGetFunding platform to achieve our objectives. By supporting this initiative, you are actively participating in breaking the cycle of violence and poverty. Our vision is to create a space of acceptance, love, sharing and healing where families can safely address their traumatic experiences and work towards creating a better future for themselves and their communities.

Please spread the word and help us get in contact with your friends, families, coworkers or anyone who you may think might want to donate.

What we do

Feeding

The shelter provides a cooked meal twice a week for 40 children from the neighbouring villages. This ensures the children have warm, nutritious meals that their mothers do not have to pay for and provides them with an invaluable social contact.

Fundraising

We collect and deliver food, clothing and furniture donations for the children in the shelter as well as for the women in need in the surrounding area.

Home visits

Besides cooking at the shelter for these 40 children, Sonja also visits their houses to bring donations of clothing, furniture, cooking equipment and other basic necessities. She also offers emotional support and above all ensures that the children are not neglected.

Assisting with basic needs

Some of the families we visit do not have a door lock, water, toilet, kitchen or bedding, but have to pay rent. We deal with issues as they arise to ensure the families are as safe and comfortable as possible.

Support for school education

Due to financial poverty some parents are not able to send their children to school. School supplies and uniforms are mandatory and have to be paid for by the parents. We collect donations to buy school uniforms and shoes, paper, books, pens, lunch boxes and everything necessary to ensure the children are able to access school education and experience social contact between their peers.

Foreign language tuition

Once a week, children from the neighbourhood come together at the shelter to learn English with our volunteer.

Our objective - Only with your help we can make a change

Help us build a new Shelter

A larger accommodation is urgently needed to provide help to more mothers and children. With your help, we intend to create a larger area of land and accommodation, to provide the space where women and children can play, recover and heal in a safe, clean, nurturing and loving environment. Our professional psychotherapists will observe and advise when the families are ready to take the next step toward their independent life. We support them in this process, through psychotherapeutic work, independence training as well as introductions and help seeking employment, focusing on their personal skills. Once this process is complete and they are ready to move on, the doors are open for the next women and children in need of our help.

With your help, we intend to:

1. Purchase the land, placed in a quiet area close to the town of Cobano where a lot of the families originate from. This will guarantee the stability of the shelter and the long term commitment for families in need now and in the future as the project evolves.

2. Construct two new buildings that local architect Salva Schenone has designed.

3. Create Agriculture. The land will be large enough for the shelter to expand without impacting any close neighbours, but it also provides enough space and with the right conditions to create a farm, to not only feed the residents of the shelter making it a valuable and sustainable smallholding, but also to provide them the opportunity for gardening which is proven to be incredibly beneficial to aid in mental and physical health as well as creating a valuable tool in nurturing independence for the residents.

4. Sustainability. We hope to install a solar powered system, which will create enough energy to house 90 people, as well as the
