WHERE I STARTED

Teach The Children to Accept One Another & The World Will Follow - Neal G. Brownell

My name is Neal G Brownell (I go by Neal. The only reason I have the G listed is so you can find me on Facebook.) I was born legally blind. But for some reason only the spirit world understands, my blindness went undiagnosed until I was 7 years old. Although this caused many hardships for me, it also gave me opportunities to experience the world in ways the average person never has.

For instance, because I was legally blind, instead of experiencing the world through sight, I experienced the world through sensing who the people around me were. Because of this acute sixth sense, I never developed the attributes of judging the people around me by what they look like. I don’t see black or white, young or old, male or female, or any other physical differences. I see how special and unique the spirit in front of me is.

I have been asking the spirit world for years to give me a way to tell people how special each and every one of us is. When the spirit world finally answered my prayers I realized why it took so long to answer. The reason it took so long is because I was asking the wrong question. The spirit world doesn’t want me to tell people how special they are, it wants me to show them.

The answer to my prayer came in a most unusual way. I am a person who asks questions about everything. It makes no difference how ridiculous the question may seem at the time. One day while cleaning a brightly lit room I noticed a large spider in one of the corners. I vacuumed up the spider and finished cleaning the room. I then went into the very next room. This room is a guest bedroom. It is almost always kept dark. In this room I noticed a little spider next to one of the windows.

That’s when I asked myself, why is there a large spider in a bright room and a little spider in a dark room. After thinking about it I realized the light in the bright room draws lots of bugs. Lots of bugs meant lots of food for the big spider. However the light in the dark room draws almost no bugs. Almost no bugs meant an exceptionally small amount of food. However it is plenty of food for the little spider. I then asked myself, Who’s Better? Is the big spider better than the little spider or is it the other way around.

After thinking about this question for awhile, I realized that if you switch their locations and put the big spider in the dark room and the little spider in the bright room they both would die. The big spider wouldn’t have enough food so it would die, and in the bright room the little spider would be eaten by the big spider. So there is no such thing as Who’s Better? The only thing that makes one thing better than the other is it’s unique ability to handle the situation that it is in.

At this point something inside me said, great you got it, now write a book about it. I said are you insane? You want me to write a book about a big spider and a little spider? Ok, if you want me to write I will write. I didn’t even know what the book was about until I was up to the third chapter. At that point I realized the spirit world had answered my prayers. I was writing a book that shows people (young people specifically) that each and every one of us is extraordinarily special and unique in our own way.

OUR MISSION

Through our book, Just the Way You Are - You're Amazing and I'll Prove It,parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, aunts, and uncles will be able to show the children in their lives that everyone is special and each one of us brings something unique to our world.

The book does this by comparing things like a big tree at the bottom of a mountain and a scrawny, scraggly tree at the top of a mountain. Just the Way You Are then goes on to explain how each tree or other item being compared has a unique ability to adapt to its’ situation. By doing this Just the Way You Are shows the reader that each thing being compared is extraordinarily special in it’s own way. Just the Way You Are then tells stories about seemingly unremarkable people doing remarkable things. Once the children have seen for themselves how remarkable each and every one of us is, they can believe it, understand it, internalize it and go on to act on that knowledge for the rest of their lives.

By teaching the children in your lives to accept others you are also teaching them to accept themselves. There is no greater gift someone can give a child than the gift of accepting themselves.

OUR PLAN

At a time when we as a people are dividing ourselves in every conceivable way, Just the Way You Are - You're Amazing and I'll Prove It brings a timeless message of love and understanding to the world.

The funds we raise will be used to:

  • Complete self-publishing of the book. This includes completing the illustrations, layout and design, and printing
  • Building a website and doing other types of marketing and promotion
  • Putting together press kits which will be sent to magazines, newspapers, radio stations, TV shows, web shows and blogs. This includes printing of the material included in the kit as well as purchasing media lists to obtain addresses to send the press kits to.
  • Developing and printing Who’s Better? – Giving Children the Gift of Acceptance t-shirts, hats, book bags, and book marks, as well as other promotional items.

This is only the beginning. I, Neal G. Brownell, will also be going to libraries, churches, and other venues to give motivational speeches which will be promoting acceptance and unity through the book.

Won’t you join us in helping us to launch this extremely important book and getting it to as many people as possible to spread the message that knowledge and acceptance of oneself, as well as others, is freedom?

No donation is too large or too small and we greatly appreciate each and every one of you. So please join us through your donations and help spread the word by sharing this campaign with your friends!

  • Still working on the final title/subtitle. Sorry to have been out of touch. Have been making decisions on some new videos to share with you as well as other aspects. Putting a book together is hard work. If all works well we may have someone to help us with that venture. Keep us in your prayers that that becomes a reality. These videos will be much more fun. Keep watching.

  • We have had a variety of preliminary readers read the book from kids to parents to a Grammy nominated songwriter. The message of the book remains the same, to teach children to accept each other as well as themselves. However, the comments from our readers have lead us to change the title/subtitle of the book. We have many ideas in the works and we welcome any suggestions.
