Help Us Save Papa’s Heart

In December 13, 2017, our father, Rodrigo Flores, underwent Ureterolithotomy - an open or laparoscopic surgical removal of a stone from his left kidney. He had to have several stones removed from both left and right kidney to avoid kidney failure but remove first the ones on the left. Then right kidney will follow once he has fully recovered.

After just more than a year after his left kidney operation, our family is in dire straits again, not because of his right kidney but something worse that none of us was expecting - this is after we found out his weakening heart condition. He is only 49.

Towards end of June, he was complaining about pain in his chest and he is experiencing shortness of breath even doing just a very light activity. Our youngest sister accompanied him to the nearest hospital in our province located in Naga City, Camarines Sur. He was examined by a cardiologist and requested to take series of laboratory tests. We waited for the test results and after two weeks, they were out. He was diagnosed to have Severe Mitral and Aortic Valve Stenosis - a condition where the Mitral and Aortic Valves narrowed that cause the heart not to function properly. His cardiologist in Naga City referred him to Philippine Heart Center (PHC) in Manila to undergo either Valve Repair or Replacement, depending on the further tests that he will be having in PHC.

On August 19, 2019 as per cardiologist recommendation to treat his condition with urgency, our family traveled from Naga City to Manila. We went to PHC and our father was examined by one of the cardiologist there. He underwent laboratory tests again. We are all hoping his tests will somehow show a different results and we are praying that his condition doesn't require an open heart surgery. However after the results are out and studied by his cardiologist, the truth unveils itself - his condition is already severe. He needs a Double Valve Replacement as soon as possible as his condition may lead to Stroke and Heart Attack. He is still very young.

The findings didn't sink in yet. We still can’t believe that is already our papa’s condition. But adding to our already heavy hearts, the doctor reveals that the cost of this operation can cost a fortune.

Right now, our family is doing the best we can to raise the fund needed for his operation. PHC offers discounted packages for Heart Treatments. The doctor advised us to prepare a minimum of Php800,000 for the Mitral & Aortic Valve Replacement (Mechanical). That is Php755,212 for the package plus other costs that are not yet included that will arise before, during and after the operation.
