Campaign Story
My name's Martina, and I am slow-traveling across Greece on a van with my cat Simba (and partner Fil 😁).
On a cold evening of December, we were walking along the seafront of Leonidio – a remote village off the south-western Greek coast, a popular rock climbing destination – and noticed a big colony of feral cats. They started following us, begging for food.
Luckily, our cat Simba is so well fed that he can afford to snob the food we buy for him 😒 so we had some extra dry food in the car.
We laid out a few feeding stations across the sidewalk, and were surrounded by starving cats within seconds. The big ones prevailed, eating all the food, and we even had to break off a few fights.
And then, we noticed this tiny, thin, dirty kitty in a corner, barely moving.
It didn't beg for food, nor ate it when we crushed it into smaller portions and left it right in front of her face.
Her mouth looked all crusty and dirty, her eyes were dripping with black discharge and she was shaking from the cold.
We walked back to the van, but we couldn't stop thinking that the kitty would probably not make the night, or the storms forecasted for the next few days.
An hour or so later, we armed ourselves of Simba's carrier (sorry, Simba 😻), walked back and laid out some more food. The kitty came out to eat a bit, but didn't stand a chance with the other cats.
We picked it up to feed it directly from the tin, and could feel all of its bones. It was so weak that it didn't even try to escape from us!
We kept it in the van with us overnight and took it to the vet the next morning.
Meet Dobby
Dobby – so she has been called by a friend – is a female, about 2 months old, and extremely thin and weak.
We are now fostering her, treating her against infections, disease and malnourishment, and she is taking it like a champ!
She doesn't meow, likes to cuddle, purrs a lot, and even knows how to use the litter tray. And she has taken a special interest in Simba.
We need to take extra care, as we live in a van and can't risk that our cat Simba catches anything from her.
We would love your help to keep her warm, fed and bring her to health.
With a tiny donation, you can help us:
• Buy special food
• Cover vet bills for treatments and meds
• Vaccinate her
• Help us spay her (in a few months time)
We hope to make Dobby healthy and take her off the streets for good 😸
All extra donations that we won't use for Dobby will go to its twin campaign we launch to help neuter & spay, treat & feed the other stray cats of Leonidio: https://assets.gogetfunding.com/leonidiocats/
Cats, humans and local wildlife will be forever grateful 🐾
