The journey we undertake in order to release orangutans back in the wild is always nerve-wracking, and it is even a bigger challenge now, during the ongoing pandemic. However, after a year-long preparation to ensure the safety and welfare of both the orangutans in our rehabilitation centers and those already ranging freely at the release sites, by carefully addressing all potential risks in our release protocols, we have decided that it was finally time to start releasing orangutans back in the rainforests of Kalimantan. These orangutans have been waiting for their freedom and we are committed to seeing that become a reality!
With the health of our orangutans and release team at the forefront, we are taking all possible preventive measures and utilizing modes of transportation for the orangutans that minimize human contact, aside from our own team. All of our staff who are in direct contact with the orangutans implement physical distancing as much as possible, use personal protective equipment and have tested negative for COVID-19 with a rapid antigen test. Additionally, all orangutans who are released were also confirmed negative for the presence of the COVID-19 causing virus using PCR testing.
Help us to take our orangutans back to the safety of the rainforest by supporting their wild journey!
