Campaign Story
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
If he could still stand up, my brother, Patrick Jeffrey L. Dumagay, would have dressed up our house for Christmas by now. Despite his demanding job, he always found time decorate for the holidays. He is the real jolly, good fellow, and he made it his business to fill our home with warmth—and good food—especially at this time of the year.
Sadly, he is in a wheelchair and could hardly stand or walk on his own. Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with Left Cerebellopontine Angle Tumor with Obstructive Hydrocephalus. In short, a nasty brain tumor. His neurosurgeon recommends immediate surgery to avoid progressive deterioration of his brain. We need to raise at least PHP 800,000 for this, and more for his after-care.
My brother has worked for different BPO companies for the last 13 years and has always supported our family. He knew how to save for emergencies, but this brain tumor was one we never saw coming. It has depleted our entire family’s savings. In June, when tests revealed a tumor on his brain, we consulted several doctors and decided to follow a less invasive plan that would kill and stunt the tumor’s growth. My brother underwent three sessions of Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), using up the health coverage from his company. Unfortunately, this did not work. By September, he began having severe headaches again and his symptoms were worse than ever, despite a double dose of steroids. His MRI showed that the tumor had grown from 4.4 x 5.6 x 3.3 cm to 5.4 x 6.7 x 5 cm, or about the size of a small apple. We rushed him to the ER last Dec. 3 because of paralysis on the left side of the face. He is now unable to walk and has become bloated. His neurosurgeon, said the only way to save him is to have immediate brain surgery.
As his younger sister and a trained medical technologist, I am trying very hard to care for him at home, solicit financial aid, do the paperwork, and hold on to my job, which helps pay the bills. I am exhausted to my bone but I really, really would like to celebrate more Christmases with my Kuya. Kindly help us get rid of that brain tumor.
Any amount you give will be much appreciated, or if you are unable to donate, please help us by sharing this post. Rest assured that all your donations will be properly accounted for and acknowledged. I will also update this platform.
Stay safe and enjoy Christmas with those you love. May God bless you a thousand-fold.
