**Update#3 12/30 12:40pm**  We are in the final push.  Our car should be ready sometime today or tomorrow.  Our paypal balance is $519 after GGF fees.  The final total is going to be between $600-700 when they finish adding an oil change and tune up to the radiator and heating coil work.  Thank you for every donation and every share of the link.  It is greatly appreciated.

**Update#2 12/27 11:21am**
I want to thank everyone for their kindness.  This made my Christmas so much better.  Not having a car meant not being able to visit family but knowing that people did care about us helped to alleviate a lot of the frustration and sadness that sometimes threatens to overwhelm.

I've spoken with the mechanic and we have a pretty good estimate of what it is going to take to get my car road worthy again.  We would also like to do a little preventive mainteance to extend the life of the car.  I hope to keep it going at least another year.  If we can raise another $250 then the cost of repairs, mainteance, & something to offset the fee's from GGF then I will be able to pick up my car on Monday or Tuesday of next week.  Thank you again and if folks could continue to share this link it is greatly appreciated.

**Update #1 12/24 12:20pm**
I spoke with the mechanic at Gurley's Auto Service and he has said the radiator work is going to run around $230 but he has not gotten under the dash to check the heating coil and the mess that is under there.  So until he gets under the dash he is saying repairs could run frm $500-$600 or more.  I will update again as soon as I know more.

Hi! I'm Karen, my husband is Raymond and our kids are Cori and Alex.  We are here to ask for assistance in getting our families car fixed.  I was hoping that we could hold out till February at the least but fate had other plans.  Our car is a 96 Chevy Blazer and it has been a good car but it is old and wear and tear take its toll.  The radiator started leaking a while back but we compensated by just always making sure we had jugs of water in the back and I kept a close eye on the temperature gauge.  Unfortunately in the last few days the radiator is no longer working at all and we cannot afford to have the car overheat and leave us stranded.

This is our only car.  It allows me to get back and forth to work and more importantly it allows me to take my husband to his numerous doctor appointments.  My husband has Multiple Sclerosis.  He was diagnosed in 05 after a year of hell not knowing what was wrong wtih him.  Now he is unable to work and we barely squeak by on his disability and what I bring home from my part time retail gig.  We live in a very rural area and there is no mass transit available to us.  The closest convience store is 5 miles away.  If we want to go to a full size grocery store it is more like a 15 mile drive. Most of his doctors are at least 25 miles away in the nearest city.  Without a working car we would be housebound and be forced to be a burden on our friends and family.

If we are able to get the car in better working condition I hope to be able to return to school and finish my degree sometimes in the next year.  I could also look further afield for work and maybe find something better than a part time minimum wage job.  We want to remain as indepdent as possible but that is only possible with a working car.  Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you can offer our struggling family.

  • I know it can be tough especially when a situation like yours. I know it isn't much but it is something my household can live without (since it would most likely go towards fast food on a day I'm feeling lazy). I hope you are able to reach your goal. Merry Christmas!
