The tin shack is and has been Kgotso Senamela's house since 1994, when he sought asylum in South Africa from Rwanda. The community affectionately calls him "Oum" which means Uncle, as he is known to be every child's best friend. The manner in which he integrated with the community, earned him the name Kgotso, which means peace. Years ago while I was growing up in the village, he was also my friend. It is nearly 30yrs years later, a lot has changed and now Oum Kgotso needs my help. Indeed he needs everyone who can's help. He is now a widower aged 70yrs who lives alone and suffers from athritis and other ailments that he can't be helped with because he resides in a rural area, where almost 95% of the population in that area have little to no access to quality health-care. Since 2016, Oum Kgotso has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. It has crippled him and during the winter months, he doesn't even manage to move because his shack is so cold that the cold stinging draft, penetrates his brittle bones and he ends up immobile and because he has no relatives and and survives tending to people's livestock. he can't afford to buy material and build an aboard that is dignified and lessens his agony, especially in cold, wet seasons. Earlier in June, I started asking neighborhors and friends of mine for donations to build jus a simple 3 roomed house that will protect him from the elements. I am asking for help in raising an amount of $1 500 to buy material and help put a roof on the head of an old man, who has been a pillar of the community, for way longer than I have been alive. Your help is humbly required, and it would be Oum Kgotso's best Christmas present ever since losing his wife.
