A mother is a protector, disciplinarian and a friend. A mother is a selfless, loving human who must sacrifice many of their wants and needs for the wants and needs of their children. A mother works hard to make sure their child is equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to make it as a competent human being.

This is how I described my mother, Nanay Merlyn. The wrinkles on her face shows the years of her sacrifices for us (her children) to have a better life. The cracks on her feet shows the many years of her struggles of going to work everyday just to provide our needs...and the roughness on her palms shows how she prioritize her children over herself.

For the past 52 years, my mother was the sole provider of our family. She worked everyday and provided us with all our needs. My father is just a lowly tricycle driver and helped in his own small ways. Being a responsible father who looks and takes care after us while mother's at work was already a big help.

We were well-provided because of our parents understanding. Our mom was the one providing our financial needs and father was the one providing us with discipline.

For 52 years this has been our family set-up...until year 2012, when my mother had her first Stroke. It was an Ischaemic Stroke that caused her a slurred speech and blurring of vision. We did our best to provide her with proper health care and followed her medication and diet plan but after only a year (2013), she had another stroke which that time was a Right Corona Radiata Bleeding (Hemorrhagic Stroke). This worsen her slurred speech and blurring of vision with an additional difficulty of walking. We were on the verge of giving up but we hold on tight with our faith. We continued giving Nanay Merlyn the care she needed...but after 2 years (2015), she had another Stroke. This time it was a Midbrain Infarction, causing her a weakness of her extremities and lower facial weakness. The doctor told us that it cannot be avoided despite our compliance with all the health care and medications since our mother has also an Uncontrolled Diabetes. We just continued providing her necessary needs.

However, upon our annual check up on January 2017 our doctor noted an elevated creatinine level (605 mmol/L) of Nanay Merlyn. He started giving us a Ketoanalogue Medicine and Nanay took it for 2 months but with no change in level, so our Doctor highly advised us to have Nanay Merlyn resort to Hemodialysis. With unstable financial assistance from my brothers and sister, we have no choice but to refuse. Fortunately, after a few weeks of communicating with Nanay Merlyn's sister abroad, she volunteered to shoulder all the expenses of the operation for the fistula insertion last April 2017 which cost P20,000 ($400).

Ideally, a Hemodialysis Patient should have 3 sessions per week. However, due to financial constraint we requested for a twice a week session only. Nanay Merlyn has already survived a year and 7 months being a Hemodialysis Patient with some struggles since sometimes we don't meet her needs due to financial problems. This past few months, we even have to request for a once a week session only which was really difficult for all of us since we worry for our mothers condition because she's prone to have pulmonary congestion as a result of fluid retention in her lungs. This financial problem we had worsened because last March 2018, my 10-years-old nephew Vinz Marco was diagnosed with two cancers (Leukemia and Lymphoma) and we pooled all our resources for his treatments and procedures...sacrificing some needs of Nanay Merlyn. Unfortunately, my nephew didn't survived for long because last June 2018, he passed away. This left a big hole in our life...especially to Nanay, since our nephew was also her first Grandchild. She even had some episode of depression since then because of our loss.

And now, as the year approaches to end, I would like to find ways to collect funds for my mothers Hemodialysis Treatment. I want to give Nanay Merlyn the assurance that she should not worry with her treatments expenses because we have the budget for it. You see, ever since we had pooled all our resources for my nephews treatment, Nanay Merlyn always worry if we still have budget for her Hemodialysis because if none, she would say to just cancel her session for awhile. This really breaks my heart because I don't want Nanay to suffer and sacrifice her health again...just like what she did before when she worked full time and overtime just to provide for us.

That's why, as Nanay Merlyn's daughter who currently doesn't have a job because I need to take care of her needs at home, I'm humbly knocking in your hearts to please help me continue Nanay Merlyn's Hemodialysis Treatment by donating any amount you can give. I hope you can find the willingness in your hearts to spare some amount for prolonging the life of a 61-years-old mother who gave all her heart for her children.

Thank you so much!

Here's an estimate of Nanay Merlyn's Hemodialysis Expenses each Session per Week, Month and Year.

  • Dialysis Rate:

P3,000 ($60)/session x 3 sessions/week = P9,000 ($180)

  • Eposino Injection:

P1,250 ($25)/injection x 3 injections/week = P3,750 ($75)

TOTAL/Week: P12,750 ($255)

TOTAL/Month: P51,000 ($1,020)

  • P12,750 ($255) x 4 weeks = P51,000 ($1,020)

TOTAL/Year: P612,000 ($12,240)

  • P51,000 ($1,020) x 12 months = P612,000 ($12,240)
