We’re reaching out to your kind hearts today to ask for help for our second mom's chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Irma, or as we grew up to know her, Tita Else, has been in our family since her young age of 19. Since then, she has championed for her family and become their breadwinner. She worked for our grandfather as my dad was growing up and continued to work for my dad when he married. She was witness to the hardships of our parents as they toiled through the days, and cared for them as they did so, and when we the kids came in to the picture, she was there to be our second mother and helped mold us into the young adults that we are. She became our home maker, an ever-reliable figure who oversees and cares not just for our family but also for the whole Talla and Rubio clan.

Many other helpers have come and gone from our household, and even if she could have done the same, she stayed committed to showering us with love, making sure we were well-fed and in the best shape we could be every single day. She was kind and patient enough to ease other helpers that we had, eventually some of the left our household to pursue greater things in life. But Tita Else stayed. She was consistently diligent with all tasks, even going out of her way sometimes to bring us food when we are busy with school and are living far away from home. If you happen to be one of our friends who have visited our place, I’m sure you’ve enjoyed a snack or two (or a lot really!) from her. Everyone loved her food because she made them with passion and served them happily, regardless of how painstaking it can be to cook alone for tens of people at a time.

And when you ask her what she wants, she just says, “mag-mall lang tayo, mag-Jollibee”, or she mentions a new pair of sandals, eyeglasses, or new denim pants. Ok na siya doon. And her dreams? To one day see us, her alagas, to graduate and to finally travel back home to enjoy the house she built in Ilocos.

This year, at the age of 63, she was slated to retire to finally do so. However, the pandemic has magnified her current concerns, like the need to continue supporting all her nephews, nieces and other relatives despite the situation, and the logistical difficulties of going back home in the time of a pandemic. On top of this, she was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, which would require at least 6 cycles of chemotherapy to treat.

As her family, we have been trying to exhaust all ways to make ends meet as we know it will be difficult to sustain large, unforeseen expenses such as this during this very challenging time. Aside from arranging papers and walking the issue to offices, we are knocking on your hearts today to help us help her heal. If you have ever met her before or enjoyed her dish, please spare her a thought. She deserves the best things in this world, and just as she made our lives happy and comfortable, we want to continue giving her the same as well.

We would be eternally grateful.
