Tirana Eagles Basketball Club is a professional basketball team owned by the Tirana Eagles Basket Association, a non-profit organization with the initiative of helping the youth of Albania build a future through organized basketball.
Eagles, as the club is commonly known, was founded in 2014 as an exhibition team comprised of young, unsigned players, providing them with a competitive platform to gain exposure and earn contracts from bigger clubs regionally. During the 2015-16 season, the club joined the Albanian Basketball First Division, the second tier league in the country after the Albanian Basketball Superliga.
After a remarkable start to the 2016-17 season, the club is currently holding the runner-up spot in the Albanian Basketball First Division. During the first half of the season alone, Eagles were able to nearly double in wins from the previous season, and are now looking to make a run at the Albanian Basketball First Division title or at least gain promotion into the Albanian Basketball Superliga for the following season.
Despite all the progress made in only two competitive seasons, the Tirana Eagles Basket Association has been unable to raise sufficient funds to cover all of the operational costs for the 2016-17 season and has been forced to push it's financial dues to the Albanian Basketball Federation until the final deadline of payment. If the club is unable to meet the deadline of March 1st, it will be suspended for the remainder of the 2016-17 season, thus ending this historic season and dream of promotion.
