Please Help Us Help Manatees
at Wildtracks in Belize with a quick share or small donation!
My husband Todd and I moved to Florida from Ohio in 2010 to start a new life together and help animals. Since discovering our love for manatees and getting more involved, we have volunteered for multiple organizations throughout the state of Florida. We've assisted professional teams with manatee care, helped carry manatees to the water for release, attended many underwater cleanups, and reached out to educate others about the importance of Florida's wildlife and ecosystems.
The endangered West Indian Manatee and even more rare Amazonian manatee are being threatened by pollution, boat strikes, climate change, and land development. The Wildtracks organization in Corozol, Belize operates a rehabilitation center that depends almost solely on valuable volunteer resources for its success. With limited fresh water, high heat and humidity, and a high volume of responsibilities it can be a difficult, albeit rewarding, place to give your time.
Right now, along with their busy primate rehabilitation facility, three manatees are rehabilitating at the Wildtracks facility with limited volunteer resources to help handle the unusually high load of feeding, care, cleaning, and daily maintenance. Todd and I now have an opportunity to go international, help manatees, and volunteer for Wildtracks in Corozol, Belize. But we need your help to get there!
Your amazing donation will help Todd and I with our cabana, food, airfare, supplies and will be added to the money we've made by working around the clock and selling everything we can!
This is not a vacation! We will be working with Wildtracks to help rehabilitate manatees and primates for release back to the wild with minimal electric, 10 minute showers, long hours in 90%+ humidity, tedious chores, and washing our laundry by hand. Currently their rehabilitation facilities are full with manatees and primates that need lots of attention and care... and we can help the amazing Wildtracks Team give it to them!
With Todd's help, I will keep a complete diary, recorded daily, of our exciting adventures and travels throughout the duration of our stay in Belize. Snippets of the diary will be uploaded at least once a week to a digital travel blog!
