Help us get back on our feet: we can’t afford our rent, medical bills and more.

I'm a 30 years old Uruguayan and my partner Louise is 29 and from Brazil. Recently life knocked us over and we really need your help! Please, help us get back on our feet. Once this debt is gone we're finally going to be able to get by, but right now it's impossible for us to succeed.

Summary:

Louise lost her job, her mother physically and violently attacked her, the rest of the family neglected her, she had to drop out of college and move to Uruguay. We had to get loans and use our credit cards to survive. I had to drop out of college to be able to financially support us. Then, we lost our apartment, our landlord tried to con us, our cat almost died, we had to move in the middle of the pandemic. Most of my coworkers were fired and I spent 6 months barely breathing.

Now we're trying to end the financial mess but we're really struggling and next month we won't have enough money to survive: the bills piled up and we'll have to choose between paying the rent or buying food.

The Long Story

2019 - How it all started -

Louise was unexpectedly fired. Her mother physically abused her, the rest of her family ignored her when she needed help and, to make things worse, we weren't even living on the same country. She was completely devastated and alone, things were really dark for a while and it was completely terrifying.

Would her mother attack her again? Or maybe the father. How were we going to pay her University bills? food? rent? How is she going to afford moving abroad?

Our mental health was spiraling and things were only getting harder by the minute. At certain point medication was necessary to keep us sane.

I got a loan and sent her the money so she could survive for a few months. As soon as things were a bit under control she got a loan to buy a plane ticket, packed some clothes and moved to my country: all of a sudden we were living together, she was learning a new language and following all the legal steps to get her residency.

2020 - When things got worse -

As you can imagine, bills were pilling up. With my salary I was supporting both of us and paying the loans and credit card debt. It was hard but we both lived as frugally as possible and were getting by. College was no longer an option.

Luckily, Louise got a job in March 2020, my country's government hired her to be an English teacher. She works online with kids from rural and vulnerable areas around the country. Of course the pay is not really good but last year she had 400 students, I'm extremely proud!

After that, things went south again: my roommates lost their jobs and we all had to move out from our apartment. We were in the middle of a pandemic looking for a place to live... that wasn't easy at all: our landowner wanted us to pay extra money (for no reason whatsoever) and made everything extremely hard for us. It took a lawyer to get him to sign the papers. Prices are extremely high and restrictions made everything even harder.

As an extra, let me share this anecdote: Ramsés, my 8 years old (cranky and fat) cat had a tumor and removing it was extremely urgent. The tiny hairball recovered until a few weeks later he got an urinary infection, a really bad urinary infection. He barely survived and we'll be grateful forever, his vet even came home at 3am to give him shots.

2021 - The situation right now -

Imagine the bills: loans, rent, moving to a different country and then to a different apartment, lawyer, credit cards, house expenses, food/cleaning supplies, residency papers, vet bills, basic home appliances we had to buy, medical bills...

Last month we finally finished paying the loans and credit card debts but we weren't able to cover our rent, medical bills, house bills, etc. It was, and still is, impossible.

And that's why I'm here.

Now that you know almost everything that happened (yes, there's more to the 2019-2020 events: my father has terminal cancer, my grandma has skin cancer, etc etc) let me share with you

Our financial situation

- rent: U$D1000

- house bills (electricity, phone, internet, building expenses): U$D700

- medical bills (dentist, medications, doctor appointments, health insurance): U$D450

- day to day (food, cleaning products, personal higiene): approximately U$D400 give or take

- vet bills: U$D 250

Of course I'm more than willing to share the receipts to show the payments were done and the money went where it was supposed to go.

As you'll see on the rewards, I want to give something in return. I didn't know what to do so I got creative.
