Dear Friends and Family

We are writing to you today for a reason that is very important to us, but at the same time it is a letter that nobody ever wants to have to write or send.

Firstly, as most of you know, Clayton has been struggling with his health over the past 6 or so years after having been diagnosed with Cancer. He has a substantial amount of conditions and diseases that form part of the after-effects of extensive chemo therapy. To give you an idea, he has very serious Sarcoidosis, he is a chronic asthmatic, he has gradual liver cirrhosis from the high doses of chemo therapy, and very recently (about 2 weeks ago), was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (which is basically a disease that allows ulcers and sores to grow on your small intestines and makes your colon non-functional). This most recent disease requires Clayton to have surgery to remove sections of his intestines. Over and above that, Clayton needs to have 6 monthly oncology workups to make sure that the cancer is not back. None of this is covered by our medical aid because of the fact that the cancer was a pre-existing condition prior to joining the medical aid.

As you can imagine, these conditions are not cheap to maintain, and the most recent diagnosis of Ulcerative colitis has put a massive financial strain on us as we do not have credit available to us and this takes a massive chunk of our disposable income every month.

Not only has Clayton’s health taken a toll on our financial situation but fighting Tornado’s battle with epilepsy last year cost us around R50 000 in vets bills and medication which we are still trying to pay off in fact.

On top of that all, the owner of the lovely home we live in has sold it from underneath us (we did not even know it was on the market) and because we were on a month-to-month contract with him, we were given notice that we have to move out by the end of April pretty much at the same time we were told that Clayton needs surgery.

We have exhausted all funds available to us for Clayton’s health over the past year or so and we are now in a situation where we have 10 days to find a new home as well as come up with funds for his operation, biopsies and CT scans that he needs, and we have no spare money to come up with the deposit that ALL places require us to pay upfront to confirm the property (we did not need to pay our current landlord a deposit when we moved in unfortunately).

The reason for this letter is for us to put our pride in our pockets and ask for help. We are in desperate need of help. If you are able to spare just a few Rands, dollars, pounds or euro to contribute towards helping us get on our feet in a new home we would be forever grateful. Even if you wish not to donate anything to us but could perhaps loan us funds, that would work too as affordability to repay a loan is not a problem. If you are not in a position to assist PLEASE share this cry for help with anyone that you think might be kind enough to assist a ‘friend of a friend’.

We are currently paying R18 000 rent and therefore we are looking at houses in the same budget. But at this point, looking at houses means nothing at this stage because we cannot confirm any of them without paying the deposits etc.

The breakdown of the costs required is as follows:

• Deposit (2 months rental) – R18000 x 2 = R36 000
• 1^st month’s rent (needs to be paid upfront to seal the houses) = R18 000
• Cost of moving = R5000
• Medical Costs = R60 000

TOTAL COST = R119 000 (+-8000 Euro / +-7000 pounds / +-$10000)

We are at our wits end, we have 10 days to find a new home and move. As well as an operation that we need to schedule and pay for. And we have no way to come up with this amount of money other than ask for help. We cannot stay with friends or just make a temporary plan because we need a home for our dogs to go to. And you all know that our dogs are like our children! <3

PS. As mentioned above, this is extremely hard for us, and we have been forced to put our pride aside and ask for help. We are however trying to avoid this becoming a public spectacle etc as Clayton has been through all this before with Chemo Therapy and the “pity” and online attention that it attracts is not something that we want at this stage. So, we are trying to keep this a “hand to hand” concept by sending it to friends, family, people that have crossed our paths etc rather than paste it all over our social media accounts.
