Dogs Deserve Better Rehabilitation Centre is situated 10km outside of Malmesbury, South Africa, on a plot where we rehabilitate dogs that are abused and neglected by the informal communities of the Western Cape.
Each of these abandoned animals deserves a second chance. The shelter has a strict no-kill policy, and each and every rescue is given all the medical care and attention they need regardless of how "hopeless" the case is.
Founded by Natasha Theunissen in 2010, she has taken in hundreds of abused, abandoned and neglected dogs and nursed them back to full health, finding them loving forever homes in the process. She runs the shelter alone, and the dogs live altogether with her (under constant supervision) in her humble nutec house on the farm, in order to stimulate their social needs as well as to ensure they are well-adjusted for when they find their forever homes.
Not only does she take in rescues and rehabilitate the older, abused and socially impaired fur-kids of Malmesbury, but she also goes out to the informal settlements in order to teach the local community how to properly care for their four-legged-friends.
At this time, she is renting a farm plot in Malmesbury but unfortunately some non-dog-lovers that reside there do not wish to help her cause, preferring instead to hinder her progress and disrupt the shelter's tranquility. From new neighbors that wont leave her alone and verbally abuse her and the dogs, to a landlord that charges her for not only her own utility bills but those of her non-paying tenants as well, the shelter is suffering from unnecessary interference, and it is time to move to a permanent and peaceful location in order to continue with this amazing cause uninterrupted.
I, her daughter, am starting a campaign to raise funds in order to buy a plot of land for the shelter, to ensure that the shelter can keep running for many moons to come.
Any donations will be a great help, and hopefully we can reach our goal and ensure the future of this wonderful organization, together!
