Help us build a home for a musical community in Latvia

We are “BJMK” (Children and Youth Music Club), a musical community representing

the interests of children, youngsters and their families, by giving them a chance to

evolve their musical skills and personalities. Through our work with local young

people, we help them to meet the challenges and difficulties which they face, and

engage and find their voice in society, through music and creative self-expression.

We also foster integration between different nationalities in Latvia and are active in

several different volunteering organisations and activities, both local and European-

wide, and encourage our youngsters to get involved.

“BJMK” was founded as a society (NGO) in 2004 in the city of Jelgava, Latvia. Later,

in 2008, we founded a private music school, “BJMK Rockschool”, which was

established for professionally orientated education in music. We believe that

everyone, no matter what age or previous knowledge, can become a true musician

when taught in the right way.

At the beginning of our journey as an organisation, our team of volunteers renovated

an old building to make it our home for more than 10 years. This we did with great

joy and excitement, giving all the children and youngsters a space for music and

creativity. Every year, “BJMK” is like a second home to 300 children and young

people who choose to do something valuable with their free time. Since our

founding, we have inspired over 2,000 young people to believe in themselves and

follow their dreams, whether in music as professionals, or by instilling in them a self-

confidence to grow as people with wider perspectives.

Now we have a new challenge. Together, we have to move and make a new home

for our “BJMK” community. It is a very hard decision, having put so much effort and

energy into our previous building, but after reviewing all the pros and cons, the only

viable option is to build a new home once again. We have an old building in our

possession which needs renovating. We hope that we can unite all our resources

again and do most of the work together with local volunteers, but we need your

support, both to raise money and raise our profile. The money is needed for

materials for the renovation as well as the work that can only be done by

professionals (i.e. replacing the roof, renovating the interior walls, replacing windows,

connecting utilities in the building, and installing a fire safety system).
