Help Us Bridge the Digital Divide in Rural North West

The majority of young people in Taung, in the North West Province, have never worked on a computer. With high levels of poverty and unemployment, the digital divide in Taung and many other places like it have deepened social and economic inequality, leaving already vulnerable communities further behind. To help address this urgent issue, the Taung Child Foundation, a youth development organisation operating in and around the Taung District Municipality, will be hosting its inaugural #LevelUpSessions on the 11th of April, 2020. These will be inspiring mobile phone-centric workshops that will upskill attendees in a number of critical areas. Geared at 16-35 year olds, the #LevelUpSessions will focus on three masterclasses, namely:

1. Preparing for higher education: covering the future of work and how higher education institutions are responding to this, how and when to apply to higher education institutions, and applying for bursaries and NSFAS.
2. CV writing and job searching: focusing on apps and tools to help with CV writing, job searching and preparing for job interviews.
3. Growing your small business: focusing advice and tips to scale up small business using mobile technologies and social media.

As our first event, we have limited it to 100 attendees and in two weeks we were fully subscribed. In order to make this event impactful and a success, we need help with funds to cover costs associated with hosting the workshops. The funds will go towards covering costs for venue hire, catering, hiring of equipment, and transport.
