Help Uncle Wong

Hello everyone!

Last night (14/6/2021), we were made aware of Uncle Wong's situation. We have spoken to him and he has given us permission to ask for help.

Uncle Wong is 50 this year. He was working at a neighbourhood 7-11, where one of us met him. He was always incredibly friendly and never failed to speak to his customers. Soon after, he left 7-11 for another job opportunity but because of COVID-19, it fell through. He has been unemployed for quite some time now.

We bumped into him again last night. He was very apologetic and asked if we could spare him just $10.

We checked in with him again later in the night and found out that he was down to his last few dollars. We gave him a bit more so he could withdraw money from the ATM.

We then found out that his mother was recently warded because she kept crying from missing him and wants to stay at home. She is currently residing in a nursing home.

Today (15/6/2021), we learned that he has managed to find a job at MBS as a Waiter/Cook starting next month. He is currently staying with his uncle in his flat and he does not have any other family members who can help him.

He also shared that he has to attend court tomorrow for being unable to pay for HDB conservancy fees. His amount payable has been accruing because he deferred over the last few months of payment. In total, he had to pay $150 x 3 months, totalling up to $450 but was unable to do so. If the court charges him tomorrow, he would likely have to be imprisoned for 6 days, putting his MBS job next month at stake as well.

Uncle Wong has been blaming himself for not being able to manage his finances well and not being able to find a job in time to pay off the conservancy fees. He also requires an additional $80 for the ambulance fee (which was required to transport his mum).

He is currently surviving off Maggi noodles -- which he bought with the money we gave him last night!

He told us that he feels bad asking strangers for help but we believe that there are people who are genuinely willing to help him. He wishes to be able to pay everyone back for their kind donations but there are definitely other ways in which he can.
