In September 2017 Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and the situation is still dire for many, in particular the schools. At San Juan’s University High School “UHS” the technology class which provides computer programming, robotics and smartphone app programming classes was severely impacted. The computer room had deteriorated for several years but after Hurricanes Irma and María, the situation worsened, the few already outdated computers and other devices were damaged by the storm and only 3 computers remained for 20 students.
In order to help with the recovery efforts current students and alumni from Brandeis University have partnered with the Intercultural Center to raise at least $12,000 to help get the technology equipment that UHS needs. They are in need of computers, smartphones, tablets and robotics components vital for the technology classes. There is also a need of the appropriate chairs for the students to use with the computers.
If you have any equipment (i.e. laptops, tablets, smart phones, computers) that you would like to donate please send an email to [email protected] with the details and we'll let you know if technology teacher Jeanette Milland Vigio can use it for her classroom.
