Tyler and his family were on a long-dreamed-of vacation in Italy last summer when Tyler ended up in ER at the beginning of August with a severe migraine. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor and told he needed surgery. Unfortunately it wasn't safe for him to travel and he had emergency surgery in Italy to remove the tumor on August 8th. He and his wife, Rebecca, stayed in Italy while their 4 children returned home to Utah the day of his surgery to stay with Tyler's mom and stepdad.

As a result of the surgery, Tyler's left side is paralyzed. He was unable to sit, stand or walk, which made it difficult for him to travel home on a commercial flight. After finding out that Tyler had Stage 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer, it became our highest priority to get him home as quickly and carefully as possible so he could start chemotherapy, radiation, and physical therapy.

After 2 attempted commercial flights which were thwarted by the airlines, even after they'd told us all was clear and there would be no delays or hold-ups of any kind, our only possibility of bringing him home was by chartered air ambulance, which was very expensive. Tyler did not have any insurance at the time, and so we had to rely on the kindness and generosity of others.

Thanks to Castle MedFlight air ambulance company and the overhwhelmingly generosity from friends, family, neighbors and strangers, Tyler arrived back in Utah on September 11th.

After arriving, he was hospitalized for treatment and therapy until the end of October. In the months after he came home, he made huge progress – being able to sleep better, to speak clearly, feed himself, and sit in his wheelchair. However, he had also developed other problems – a blood clot in his lung, seizures and medication reactions.

His condition has worsened recently and this week an MRI showed the tumor is already growing back. Tyler has chosen to try a more aggressive chemotherapy which will hopefully improve the quality of his life, but will not prolong his life. In fact, his prognosis is now 9-10 months... The family is heartbroken.

We appreciate all the love, compassion and support so many have offered Tyler and his family. You continue to make this burden easier to bear. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
