Discovering ability in disability
Hello everyone, my name is Deborah and I am an online United Nations 🇺🇳 volunteer, who is currently volunteering for the Help Trust Foundation and raising money on behalf of the organization. The Help Trust Foundation is a non-profit, non religious, non-political, charitable organization (NGO) registered under the Tamilnadu government in Kolkata India. Help Trust’s mission is to provide basic education and skills to underprivileged and disabled children and adults, as well as identifying and developing inner latent talents and skills through Evening School & Child Development initiatives. The organization aims at enabling individuals with disabilities to become self reliant and independent through many of their offered courses.
Help Trust also operates in Mumbai, Delhi, Kollkata and Bangalore through Fulfillawish.org Project. Providing access to education, skills and raising awareness in struggling individuals lives and their families are the main themes that Help Trust focuses. Most projects are run with the help of churches, women, youth and local leaders and funded by large hearted individuals and organizations.
There are many disabled people in India struggling to obtain employment. There is no proper guidance and support for them in their career growth as a result they tend to face many challenges and hurdles in obtaining a proper employment. With many disabled children, after completion of high school they end up jobless and lacking skills for the work place. We Help Trust Organization act as a channel to help, support and guide many of these individuals to enhance their working skills by giving them free training and placement. We network with employers and by educating them more about the difficulties of disabled candidates prior to knowing about the candidate’s ability in work place. This is mainly to ensure that our candidates do not not lose their self worth and self esteem at a work place. Many of partner employers are really accommodating and supportive of their possible future employees.
● To create equal opportunities for the disabled in the society.
● To create employment opportunities which will allow many of our candidates to become financially independent
● To help individuals understand their values and worth in any profession with their abilities effectively.
● To break barriers and help individuals gain knowledge and to become entrepreneurs.
Our mobilizers carry out field visits in communities, hospitals, disability homes , colleges and schools in order to recruit those in need of our help. We approach Speech and Hearing impaired candidates and Locomotory disabled candidates in various places. We offer training in various short term courses including; Information Technology Enabled Services, Retail, Tailoring, Beautician, Mobile Repairing, and Baking. With every adult individual who completes the training, there is always a 100% job assurance. Food and short term accomodation is also offered for those in desperate need. The duration of the training courses vary between 1-3 months.
Many individuals who come to Help Trust are disabled by birth and few of them had unfortunate incident to cause these disabilities. Nevertheless, they are all eager to achieve their dreams.
