On Dec 17, Malaysia saw some of the worst floods it has seen in decades. With 47 confirmed deaths at the time of writing and tens of thousands displaced, many trans and LGBTIQA+ people in Malaysia are falling through the cracks amidst disaster and aid relief. SEED Foundation Malaysia, a non-profit organisation that provides aid to vulnerable communities such as transgender people, recently lost its drop-in center and office, leaving many vulnerable communities without aid. While those on the ground are working hard to ensure the needs and safety of LGBTIQA+ people are met, we need all the help we can get.
In the spirit of Christmas and the New Year, I really hope you could donate to Malaysia’s Trans Solidarity Fund to help the local queer community and SEED Foundation rise to its feet again. All proceeds from this fundraiser goes to the Trans Solidarity Fund to support trans, gender diverse and LGBTIQA+ persons affected by the floods, and to help SEED Foundation recover from their losses through the floods. Even a little bit goes a long way: GBP 1.00 (British Pounds) = MYR 5.62 (Malaysian Ringgit). 2 pounds can be a full meal for a person.
All proceeds will be used for:
- The purchase of groceries and food
- Health related costs (such as breathing aid, medications and other health-related items)
- Cleaning supplies for post-flood
- Helping SEED Malaysia's recovery
When donating, please include UKTSF as reference. All donations are directly transferred to SEED Foundation's PayPal account, which is linked to this fundraiser. (Disclaimer: none of the funds go through or to members of this fundraiser, who are acting as proxy to obtain international aid).
For more information about the floods, simply search for "Malaysian floods" online or use #DaruratBanjir on social media (TW: death and distress associated with natural disasters). For more information about the non-profit organisations involved, feel free to check out SEED Foundation and Justice for Sisters. Thank you!
