Hello, my name is David. I am a young scholar from Colombia and passionate about the ideas of liberty, hence my interest in spreading and applying them to new and fascinating fields of research. Recently, a paper of mine was selected to be presented at the Eight International Conference, "The Austrian School of Economics in the 21st Century," which deals with a subject that had never before been explored in the Austrian tradition: the place of Library Science in the Sciences of the Human Action and their particular relationship with economics.
We usually see Library Science as an activity that consists solely of lending books. In fact, some people wonder if it is really a science. After all, is it scientific to place a stamp on a book and wish the reader its enjoyment? Well, my mother is a librarian and thanks to her I learned that it is a science. Specifically, it is the "science at the service of science." It is the great helper of human knowledge. While the other sciences are responsible for generating information, Library Science is responsible for recording and disseminating this information. That is, without it, there would be no scientific endeavor at all.
Austrian tradition has been opened to almost all human sciences, but why not to Library Science? The answer to this question is what gives life to my paper and is what motivates the conception of a new line of research based on new and fantastic topics. The benefits of this interdisciplinary dialogue are many. For Austrians, it opens the doors to a little explored field like Library Science, to illuminate it with the flame of liberty. For librarians, it means expanding their horizons by incorporating the teachings of the Austrian School thinkers, who are famous for their originality and excellent interpretation of social reality. So, for both it is a win-win game.
Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to pay for my trip to Vienna (approximately eighteen hours, since there are no direct flights from my country) to present this new research program before a multidisciplinary audience. Likewise, this is the opportunity to receive great feedback and networking with other liberty-minded people. From there, great associations can emerge for the benefit of the Austro-libertarian ideas and of all its consumers, including you.
Every dollar counts for this purpose. I will appreciate all donations. However, I will reward some of them in a special way. For example, for all those people who donate 50 to 100 dollars, I will include them in the acknowledgments of my paper. The good thing about this is that the paper could be selected for the Journal Libertas, a prestigious academic journal, and translated into other languages.
For people who donate more than 100 dollars, I will give you some wonderful 3D printed photographs of the Austrian economist of your choice. Now what does this mean? Well, thanks to the lithophany technique, I have been able to produce them commercially. They are photographs printed on plastic, which at the time of lighting (with natural or artificial light) reveal an image (in the pictures section I leave one of Friedrich Hayek). No matter where in the world you are, there I will leave you one of these pieces in recognition of your generosity. Thank you.
