PSB Foundation - Promotion of Social Balance Foundation

PBS is a small, newly founded, non-governmental organization promoted to attaining more equality in Tanzania by helping women and children to achieve societal and economic independence.

Today, girls in Tanzania are faced with many challenges. Girls from low-income families miss about 6 to 7 days (or more) of school per month, because of the lack of sanitary pads. Not having the necessities needed during their periods, leads the girls to feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, and unable to go to school. Girls are dropping out of schools because they can not afford to buy sanitary pads and the majority of these girls come from orphanages and families living in poverty.

To attempt to overcome the problem, they engage in unsafe sexual practices. As a result, they end up having early pregnancies (up to 27% of all girl students in the districts), early marriages, and early school dropouts. In addition to this, there is a major problem with HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.

Because of extreme poverty, parents fail to pay children's school fees and the government neglects the pregnant students even after they give birth. There is no chance for them to continue with studies and they have nowhere to go.

We need to help and support those girls, so they can get proper school education, sanitary pads, and reproductive and sexual health education.

Objectives of the Project are:

  • To help adolescent girls receive sanitary pads so they can feel comfortable and confident, subsequently improving their academic performance.
  • To assist girls with acquiring academic supplies (bags, uniforms, and stationaries).
  • To educate girls on reproductive and sexual health so they can avoid early pregnancy, marriage, truancy, and dropouts.
  • To train children about their rights in schools and help them form Village Children Councils (VCC) which give children a platform to meet, learn leadership skills, discuss the problems they face in their daily lives, and get assistance from the NGO and stakeholders to solve the problems.
  • Provide lunch for low income children while at school.

The Cost of Pads:

1 box with 16 pads costs 10 USD and helps 8 girls per month. Our goal is to help as many girls as we can. Now we are trying to support 100 girls per month in a one year period, but we don't have enough funds to support the project for the whole year.

This is why we are asking for your help.

Please support us, help girls in Tanzania get a better life.

-By donating 10 USD you will help 8 girls get sanitary pads per month

-By donating 20 USD you will help 16 girls get sanitary pads per month

-And by donating a generous amount of 40 USD, up to 32 girls will be able to attend school this month and receive the education they need

Thank you!

  • A legitimate and sincere cause. My daughter is in the photo and has seen the impact of even a few dolllars. This is for all of the women past and present who were determined to defy the odds. Look at what has been and can be done. Let’s hear it for the girls! 😊👍
