A Proposal for Advocacy and Increase the visibility of Women, Children, Disables and Elderly People Program in Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions of Tanzania

Introduction

Haki-Amani Program (HAP), is an advocacy project that, seek to increase the visibility of Women, Children, Disability and Elderly (W.C.D.E) Rights in the public domain with the aim of raising public awareness, concern and influencing key decision makers to priorities W.C.D.E Rights and Issues in the country

HAP is a project initiated by Inspired Self-Reliance Initiatives an Organization with registration number 00NGO0008931 Operating in Tanzania mainland seek to ensure that addressing W.C.D.E Rights placed at the heart of policy and legislative makers and that the public support and promote W.C.D.E Rights.

In consultation of researchers from the field of legal professions, human resource professions and community development, spiritual leaders, W.C.D.E themselves, political leader and members of the organization a list of Top 6 Issues was formulated which now forms the core of HAP Strategy of calling in the following areas:-


  • Abuse
  • Exploitation
  • Inclusion
  • Elderly Rights
  • Safe Schools
  • Violence

In 2018, Inspired Self-Reliance Initiatives analysed the individual level and public level of awareness on human rights specifically on women, children, people with disability, and elderly rights and facilitated research and consultation in Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions to discuss the means to be adopted to raise public and individuals awareness on Human Rights especially women, children, people with disability and elderly Rights. The consultation led to the production of the present project: Haki-Amani Program (HAP) which address the Top 6 Issues

W.C.D.E Participation

HAP Project is in forefront of promoting W.C.D.E participation in Human Rights Issues in Tanzania. This participation is about providing W.C.D.E with the opportunity to be involved in decision-making and express their views on the matters that affect their lives. W.C.D.E have a body of experience and knowledge that is unique to their situation, they have views and ideas as the result of that experience. The right to W.C.D.E participation is featured in the constitution of United Republic of Tanzania of 1977 under Article 18. States; “Every person - (a) has a freedom of opinion and expression of his ideas.”

HAP Project also placed W.C.D.E participation at the heart of its action and is itself a product of participatory consultations that began in 2018. These consultations generated a list of Top 6 Issues that W.C.D.E wanted to be addresses to the public. By see the importance of addressing these Top 6 Issues to the public and raise awareness on the those issues, the Organization agreed that, the campaign should continue with the aim of ensuring that W.C.D.E voices were heard and that W.C.D.E Rights feature strongly during 2019 National Assembly.

Project Objectives

HAP Project overall objective is to advocacy on the Top 6 Issues and explain how W.C.D.E are badly affected and its specific objectives are:

  • Come up with key recommendations.
  • Evaluate progress made on top 6 Issues from Public perspective
  • Promote inter-generational dialogue and sharing of ideas in community.

Beneficiaries of the Project

Violation of Human Rights leaves community with cruelty, poverty and victims’ suicides in community. HAP Project advocacy against all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation therefore the beneficiaries are women, children, disables and elderly who are in high risk to become the victims.

Project Activities

HAP Project based on three main activities

  • Participate in radio programs addressing the top 6 Issues
  • Weekly villages Outreaches
  • Monthly Human Rights Seminars in Schools

Implementation Methodology

  • Every activity will be conducted in close coordination with government local bodies.
  • Progress report will be submitted to the donors, and financial transactions will be maintained and audited as per the Standard of the government of Tanzania.
  • Records of every activity will be maintained properly and publicized.

What we need

At the moment we already start this project but we have obstacles to fill some of our needs to run our projects (short term and long term). We need two Motor Cycles for visiting villages and schools, volunteers accommodations including meal and allowances and some office equipment including an extra camera and laptop to run Project into an autonomous and independent space. Which results we can expand our work projects.

Estimated cost of around USD 11,400. Therefore, we want to use your solidarity, either in the form contribute Motor Cycle(s), camera or laptop, financial assistance, or assistance in spreading words.

There will be a thank you sign if you decide to help us. We will send a leather hand-made Maasai traditional shoe from Tanzania.
