This is my family's home. Over the years it has meant a lot to many people, though in most respects it isn't much of a house. It consists of a trailer that has been added on to over the years. The construction of these additions were done under great need but little finance. In a lot of places gaps between walls allow you to see outside and prevent heating properly. The inside of the home resembles the outside. Many of the rooms do not have proper flooring, insulation or things like trim on doorways and many of the windows. There isn't a working furnace. The pipes freeze every winter. Some summers the well runs dry. With all that said, this house has been a home to many when they would otherwise have nothing. The door here has always been open to anyone in need. Over the years they have taken in many people and provided them with a roof and hot meals until they were able to get out on there own. Often times people would come in off the street. My father and aunt head the home together. My father is now disabled and unable to contribute anything more than his disability check, which doesn't even cover all of the bills. My aunt has had to stay home to care for my father so she is unable to bring in an income. The other people staying there help out with what they can but its not enough. I am worried though. I don't want them to spend another winter shoveling snow out of the inside of the home or fixing broken pipes in the dirt floor cellar or have them spend another summer wondering if the water will hold. The electrical wiring has become dangerous. We dont know how long it will last before theres a major problem. Unfortunately when something breaks or needs repair, there isn't enough money to fix it properly. I worry for their safety. This home has help so many, now it needs help. I am trying to raise 10,000 dollars to drill a well, make repairs and help pay the taxes.
